Huawei Seeds for the Future is a flagship programme with the objective of nurturing ICT talents and facilitating knowledge transfer as fundamental for obtaining highly skilled labour in the era of information digitization. Participants to the programme were exposed to Huawei's cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), 5G technologies, building and configuring their own 4G base stations and many other cutting-edge solutions through technology workshops and networking events.
First debuted in Brunei Darussalam in 2015 saw a total of 20 brilliant Bruneian students participated in the past three years. Today, another 6 Bruneian students who represented the 4th badge of beneficiaries of this program will end their two weeks attachment. Joining the graduation were also students from 4 Costa Rica, 10 Malaysia and 10 Zambia.
The Guests of Honour to the closing ceremony held at Huawei Headquarters at Shenzhen on the 26 October 2018 was Yang Mulia Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education Brunei Darussalam. The Deputy Minister in her speech highlighted the importance of the education system to keep abreast to the changes brought about by the 4th Industrial Revolution. She emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation and partnership between education institutions and leading global industries such as Huawei to ensure that the graduates are relevant and current to the needs of industries.
Also addressing the closing ceremony, Mr Detlef Eckert, the Vice President of Global Government Affairs of Huawei highlighted in his speech the importance of IT skills in the fully connected and intelligent world, stating that it is both a necessity and a career booster. "The Seeds for the Future program aims to encourage young people to embrace the opportunities which are inherent in digital technologies to look beyond cultural and geographical borders".
Muhammad Taufiq Aiman bin Haji Hishamuddin @ Luqman Hakim represented the participants from Brunei and expressed his appreciation to Huawei in his presentation at the closing ceremony. The Brunei delegates performed Silat Gerak 41: Asas 1 dan Titibatang in the closing ceremony performance to showcase Brunei culture.
Also present were Dr Chin Wei Keh, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Higher Education and Pg Nazhatul Shahima, Acting Assistant Director of ICT Department from the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam; Mr Cheng Hao Charles, Chief Representative and Ms Yong Siew Wen Kitty, Public Relations Manager the representatives from Huawei Brunei Office. The delegates visited Huawei Headquarters, Huawei Business Industry Solution Centre and Huawei Campus.
Seeds For The Future initiated in 2008, it is Huawei's global corporate social responsibility (CSR) flagship programme, which had been implemented in 95 countries and involved with more than 2,700 university students.
