General Conference of Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO)

A delegation from the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam, led by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education attended the Extraordinary Session of the General Conference of Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) at the Bay La Sun Expo Center, King Abdullah Economic City in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from the 09th to 10th May 2019.

The Extraordinary Session is attended by Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Senior Officials from over 50 Member States of ISESCO and representatives of international organizations and observers.

The Minister of Education, in his statement as part of the Extraordinary Session’s Statements of Heads of Delegation, expressed congratulations to His Excellency Dr Salim Al-Malik as the newly appointed Director General of ISESCO. His Excellency Dr Salim takes over from Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri who had led the organization as the Director General of ISESCO since 1991.

Yang Berhormat Dato highlighted the current challenges and opportunities brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution facing Brunei Darussalam and the rest of the world, and called for ISESCO to champion initiatives in order to benefit from these changes.
The Minister of Education also called for ISESCO to continue to address the developmental needs in the Islamic world as well as the collective efforts and expertise of all Member States of ISESCO to contribute towards the shaping of the Islamic World and the development of human civilization, in achieving solidarity, cooperation, progress and peace.

Among those accompanying the Minister of Education is Yang Mulia Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) and two officers from the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam.
