Four Students Participate in Singapore Technologies Endowment Programme (STEP) Brain Camp

Four Maktab Duli Pg Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah (MD) students left for Singapore to participate on the annual week-long Singapore Technologies Endowment Programme (STEP) Brain Camp 2019 from 9th -15th June. The student representatives are Ak Muhd Izzan bin Pg Haji Suhardy, Ahmad Amani Rusyaidi bin Ramli, Dk Nur Rosyiidah Apryll Czarina @ Dk Siti Fadhillah binti Pg Mohammad Fadly and Syafiqah Syahirah binti Emran and chaperoned by MD’s lecturer Dr Haji Sahrunizam bin Haji Kasah.

 

STEP Brain Camp 2019, now on its 8th year, is organised by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and co-funded by Temasek Foundation International (TF Intl) gathered youths from ten ASEAN countries including Bangladesh, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei. It aims to inspire and educate secondary and tertiary students on brain research and understanding of brain functions and diseases. In addition, it also hopes to foster interaction and friendship between students from the participating countries. Brunei has been involved in the programme since 2012 and this year, MD representatives will present a research paper on Long-term Potentiation and Long-term Depression.

 

Besides presenting their research paper, the students will also engage in a variety of activities that ranges from attending key scientific lectures, participating in hands-on lab experiments, visiting the Science Centre and Centre of Life Sciences (CELS) and having dialogues with the brain experts.

 

Acting Director of Schools, Department of Schools, Awang Zainal Abidin bin Haji Kepli, MD Principal Hajah Monaliza binti Haji Abdul Halim, senior officers from School Co-Curricular Activities Unit, Department of Schools and MD lecturers saw the students off at the Brunei international Airport.

EMPAT PELAJAR MENYERTAI SINGAPORE TECHNOLOGIES ENDOWMENT PROGRAMME (STEP) BRAIN CAMP 2019

 

Empat pelajar Maktab Duli Pg Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah (MD) berlepas ke Singapura untuk menyertai program Singapore Technologies Endowment Programme (STEP) Brain Camp 2019 yang diadakan selama seminggu bermula dari 9 hingga 15 Jun. Wakil-wakil pelajar adalah Ak Muhd ​​Izzan bin Pg Haji Suhardy, Ahmad Amani Rusyaidi bin Ramli, Dk Nur Rosyiidah Apryll Czarina @ Dk Siti Fadhillah binti Pg Mohammad Fadly dan Syafiqah Syahirah binti Emran serta diiringi oleh pensyarah MD, Dr Haji Sahrunizam bin Haji Kasah.

 

Program STEP Brain Camp 2019 yang dianjurkan oleh National University of Singapore (NUS) dan dibiayai bersama oleh Temasek Foundation International (TF Intl) mengumpulkan belia dari sepuluh negara ASEAN termasuk Bangladesh, China, India, Jepun, Selatan Korea, Sri Lanka dan Chinese Taipei. Ia bertujuan untuk memberi inspirasi dan mendidik pelajar-pelajar menengah dan pasca-menengah akan penyelidikan yang berkaitan dengan fungsi dan penyakit otak. Di samping itu, ia juga diharapkan dapat memupuk perpaduan dan persahabatan di antara pelajar-pelajar negara yang terlibat. Brunei telah menyertai program ini sejak tahun 2012 dan pada tahun ini, wakil-wakil MD akan membentangkan kertas penyelidikan mereka yang bertajuk ‘Long-term Potentiation and Long-term Depression’.

 

Selain membentangkan kertas penyelidikan mereka, para pelajar juga akan turut serta dalam pelbagai aktiviti seperti menghadiri kuliah saintifik, mengambil bahagian dalam eksperimen  makmal, melawat Pusat Sains dan Pusat Sains Hayat (CELS) dan berdialog bersama pakar-pakar otak NUS.

 

Pemangku Pengarah Sekolah-Sekolah, Jabatan Sekolah-Sekolah-Sekolah, Awang Zainal Abidin bin Haji Kepli, Pengetua MD Hajah Monaliza binti Haji Abdul Halim, pegawai-pegawai kanan dari Unit Kegiatan Luar Sekolah, Jabatan Sekolah-Sekolah dan pensyarah-pensyarah MD turut hadir di Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Brunei bagi mengucapkan selamat belayar kepada pelajar-pelajar
