Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education attended the 11th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting (11TH ASED) held virtually today. The online conference was hosted by the Department of Education of the Philippines in its capacity as Chair of the meeting this year. The meeting carried out the theme of Transforming Education The ASEAN Way: Forging Partnerships in the Age of Global Disruptions.

The meeting was officiated by His Excellency Secretary Isidiro Lapena, Director General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, who acknowledged the profound effects of the COVID-19 on ASEAN Member States’ education system during his opening remarks. His Excellency also hoped that ASEAN would embrace the challenges as an opportunity to move forward in equipping the future generation with skills, adaptation as well as resilience. His Excellency called for a more robust partnership between the ASEAN Member States, ASEAN Dialogue Partners, and its stakeholders in mitigating the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on the education sector.
 
This bi-annual ministerial meeting has the objective of revisiting commitments under the education sector of ASEAN. During the meeting, ministers of education from all ASEAN Member States had the opportunity to share its respective educational priorities and direction especially in addressing the impact of COVID-19. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education during the meeting shared Brunei Darussalam’s concerted effort with various key stakeholders in realising the expected outcomes for digital education.  Yang Berhormat Minister of Education also underlined that the Ministry of Education Brunei Darussalam focused on a whole-of-nation approach, especially in ensuring equitable access to digital learning for students, particularly for the disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.
 
Also in attendance during the online meeting was Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Yang Mulia Awang Aliuddin bin Haji Abd Rahman, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education), and officials from the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam.
 
Prior to the Ministerial Session, there was a convening of a Senior Officials Level session of the meeting, held virtually on 18th November 2020. Representing Brunei Darussalam at the meeting was Yang Mulia Awang Aliuddin bin Haji Abd Rahman, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Ministry of Education.
 
During the meeting, senior officials were updated on the development of initiatives, work plan and activities under the education sector of ASEAN. The session also saw the sharing of best practices and recovery plans of respective ASEAN Member States in education as the response towards the impact of COVID-19.

MESYUARAT MENTERI-MENTERI PENDIDIKAN ASEAN KALI KE-11

Bandar Seri Begawan – Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Menteri Pendidikan telah menghadiri Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pendidikan ASEAN kali ke-11 secara maya yang dianjurkan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan Republik Filipina dalam kapasitinya selaku pengerusi mesyuarat pada tahun ini. Mesyuarat membawa tema Transforming Education The ASEAN Way: Forging Partnerships in the Age of Global Disruptions.

Mesyuarat berkenaan telahpun dirasmikan oleh Tuan Yang Terutama Setiausaha Isidiro Lapena, Director General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Aiuthority of the Philippines yang mana semasa ucapan alu-aluan mengakui kesan mendalam COVID-19 terhadap sistem pendidikan negara-negara ahli ASEAN. Tuan Yang Terutama juga berharap agar ASEAN akan dapat menyahut cabaran sebagai kesempatan untuk kemajuan terutamanya dalam melengkapkan generasi akan datang dengan kemahiran serta penyesuaian dan kedayatahanan. Tuan Yang Terutama seterusnya menyeru bagi kerjasama yang lebih mantap di antara negara-negara anggota ASEAN, rakan-rakan kongsi ASEAN dan pihak berkepentingan dalam mengurangkan kesan krisis COVID-19 terhadap sektor pendidikan.

Mesyuarat yang diadakan setiap dua tahun ini mempunyai objektif untuk menyemak semula komitmen dibawah sektor pendidikan ASEAN. Semasa mesyuarat, menteri-menteri pendidikan dari kesemua negara-negara ahli ASEAN juga berpeluang untuk mengongsikan mengenai dengan keutamaan serta hala tuju negara masing-masing dalam bidang pendidikan terutamanya dalam menangani impak COVID-19. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Menteri Pendidikan Negara Brunei Darussalam semasa mesyuarat mengongsikan usaha bersepadu Kementerian Pendidikan bersama pihak-pihak yang berkepentingan dalam merealisasikan hasil pendidikan digital. Yang Berhormat Menteri Pendidikan turut menggariskan mengenai dengan fokus Kementerian Pendidikan dalam mengambil pendekatan whole-of-nation dalam memastikan akses yang saksama terhadap pembelajaran digital bagi penuntut-penuntut terutamanya bagi golongan yang kurang bernasib baik.

Turut hadir semasa mesyuarat tersebut ialah Yang Mulia Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Setiausaha Tetap (Pendidikan Teras), Yang Mulia Awang Aliuddin bin Haji Abd Rahman, Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap (Pendidikan Teras) dan pegawai-pegawai dari Kementerian Pendidikan, Brunei Darussalam.

Sebelum mesyuarat Menteri berkenaan, satu sesi mesyuarat bagi pegawai-pegawai kanan telahpun diadakan pada hari Rabu, 18 November 2020 secara maya.  Hadir semasa sesi mesyuarat tersebut ialah Yang Mulia Awang Aliuddin bin Haji Abd Rahman, Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap (Pendidikan Teras), Kementerian Pendidikan Negara Brunei Darussalam.

Semasa sesi berkenaan, pegawai-pegawai kanan telahpun dimaklumkan mengenai dengan pelaksanaan inisiatif-inisiatif pendidikan ASEAN, pelan kerja ASEAN dan aktiviti-aktiviti di bawah sektor pendidikan ASEAN. Mesyuarat turut mendengarkan perkongsian amalan-amalan baik serta pelan pemulihan negara-negara ahli ASEAN dalam bidang pendidikan sebagai respon terhadap impak dari COVID-19.
