Institutions and Programmes There are seven government VTE institutions under the day-to-day administrative authority of the Ministry of Education (MOE). The Institute Technology of Brunei (ITB) is autonomous and the other six are managed through the DTE. The programmes they offer are shown in Table 2. Another vocational school will be established in the near future to offer programmes in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry in order to meet the manpower requirements of these sectors. DTE institutions offer a wide range of full-time VTE programmes which range in duration from one year to three and half years. All full time programmes except PND have a period of industrial attachment to provide students with first-hand experience in a real working environment and to develop their occupational competence. These institutions also offer ad hoc, short term upgrading and retraining programmes to satisfy the needs of government departments and the private sector. Part-time study leading to a BDTVEC award for some programmes is also available for those who are already in service with the government or private sector. Applications to enrol in VTE programmes are open to all Brunei citizens. Permanent residents and non-citizens are required to pay school fees and their admission is subject to the availability of places.
