DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH
Sections

The department consists of five sections namely:
    1. Planning Section
    2. Research Section
    3. Management of Data Education Section
    4. Development and Monitoring Education Section
    5. Management and Administration Section


Duties of Sections
    1. Planning Section

      • To provide comprehensive education planning services.
      • Carrying out education planning tasks.
      • To review the planning of programmes and projects.
      • Providing and coordinating on Professional Development Programme [HRD] for the Ministry of Education staff in the next coming 5 years [2004 - 2008]
      • Providing students population and teachers' needs projections at all school levels.
      • Monitoring the implementation of the use of computers in education and learning in school projects.
      • Coordinating the publication of the Ministry of Education's Annual Report.

    2. Research Section

      • To identify current and future education related issues and priorities them for research purposes.
      • To plan, coordinate and implement study and research activities using the latest and recognised methods and strategies within the agreed time frame.
      • To prepare and provide comprehensive research analyses and reports.
      • To collect, categorise and catalogue education reference materials such as journals, theses, dissertations, articles, research and training reports for education researchers, practitioners and general reference.
      • To monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Ministry of Education projects including education research.
      • To prepare and provide research data bank using the latest and recognised software.
      • To cooperate with local and overseas research institutions and related agencies in areas of education research.
      • To publish leaflets and other printed materials on research, studies and education development.


    3. Management of Data Education Section

  • ·        Monitoring and updating entry of data and information i.e. data on students, teaching staff and school buildings in systematic and effective manner.
  • ·        Preparing and updating the planning and implementation programme of the Education Information System.
  • ·        Coordinating the processing of data and information pertaining to education policy, statistics and development projects.
  • ·        Designing, programming and maintaining education statistics and information system.
  • ·        Providing training programme to all levels of users (data-entry staff and end-users) on the Education Information System.
  • ·        Coordinating and updating Education Information System (EIS) coding and handbook.
  • ·        Colleting, updating and publishing :
i.                    Annual Education Statistical Year Book
ii.                  Ten year Education Statistical Analysis and Trend
iii.                Directory of Schools/Colleges and Higher Education Institutions.
 
 
 
4. Development and Monitoring Education Section
 
 
  • ·        To coordinate the implementation of educational programmes or projects which have been planned.
  • ·        To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of programmes or projects.
  • ·        Providing support services such as professional consultation and loan of equipment and materials on education development projects.
  • ·        Conducting workshops and briefings for the purpose of developing education projects.
  • ·        Publishing leaflets and other printed materials on research, studies and educational development.
     
     
5. Management and Administration Section
  • ·        Preparing annual departmental work plan and budget.
  • ·        Providing and inventorising departmental needs on equipment and stationary.
  • ·        Sourcing and procuring of education reference books, materials and journals.
  • ·        Monitoring the updating and implementation of Department’s Customer Charter. (TPOR).
  • ·        Monitoring the updating and implementation of Department’s Standard Operating Procedures (MPK).
  • ·        To collect, coordinate and publish the Annual Report using MSD format.
  • ·        Planning the needs and Professional Development for the department staff.
  • ·        Ensuring the security of Educational Information System (EIS) data confirming to the standard as stipulated in the system security protocol.
  • ·        Providing and updating the Department’s website.
