Mission

 The Department of Schools Inspectorate is committed to inspect, supervise, evaluate, submit reports and provide professional help of high quality that further successfully develops  education in this country to reach its optimum level.

Goal

 To enable the schools in this country to successfully achieve a standard of education of the highest quality.

 The nature of the job

 To ensure that the quality of education in schools in this country is well-maintained in line with the requirements of the national education policies and objectives.

 Roles

  1. To inspect schools by auditing the quality of teaching and learning.
  2. To observe teaching and learning.
  3. To identify the needs in education which require development.
  4. To provide professional guidance and advice to school administrators, teachers, departments and other relevant authorities in respect of teaching and learning.
  5. To prepare reports on the developments in education for the Ministry of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities of Inspectors

1.         To inspect schools through:

·       Whole school appraisal

·       Follow-up inspections

·       The observation of teaching and learning

·       Special inspections.

2.         To monitor the implementation of policies and directives of the Ministry of Education.

3.         To supervise curriculum implementation in specific subjects at pre-school, primary and secondary levels.

4.         To observe the effectiveness of teaching and learning of specific subjects at pre-school, primary and secondary levels.

5.         To give advice and suggestions regarding the outcomes of appraisal, observation and inspections.

6.         To submit reports about the standard of teaching and learning at pre-school, primary and secondary levels.

7.         To conduct courses, workshops and seminars for school administrators and teachers.

8.         To prepare reports, at the end of the school year, on the development of teaching and learning in specific subjects at pre-school, primary and secondary levels.

9.         To monitor the running of schools under each individual inspector’s charge.

10.      To provide expertise in specific subjects at pre-school, primary and secondary levels, and for others who request assistance.

11.      To carry out and ensure the successful implementation of the Clients’ Charter.

12.      To adhere to the department’s work manual and code of ethics.

13.      To carry out the duties and directives from the Director and Assistant Director.

 Activities

 1.         Whole school appraisal.

2.         Follow-up inspections, including the monitoring of the schools’ improvement plans.

3.         Monitoring of teaching and learning.

4.         Special inspections.

5.         Investigating complaints as directed.

6.         Visiting schools assigned to each inspector.

7.         Compiling the annual subject reports for pre-school, primary and secondary levels.

8.         Involvement in subject committees.

9.         Providing services and expertise in activities organised by the Ministry of Education and the community. 

10.  Performing general administrative duties.
