Duties and Responsibilities
- to supervise and co-ordinate the implementation of education policies and programmes
in all schools;
- to ensure quality of teaching and learning in government and non-government schools
in accordance with the national education policy;
- to recruit and place teachers in government schools according to the needs of
these schools
- to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities in schools are conducive to
learning;
- to supervise and co-ordinate school supplies including textbooks, teaching aids,
furniture and other equipment according to approved allocations;
- to assist in the co-ordination of programmes and projects of the various sections
and units of the Department of Schools;
- to provide an effective and efficient guidance and counselling service for students;
- to ensure that benefits such as transport, allowances and hostels are made available
to students who qualify for them;
- to ensure that non-citizen students in the country possess relevant documents
and are registered with the Ministry of Education; and
- to ensure that all teaching staff in non-government schools are registered with
the Ministry of Education.
