Policy, Vision & Mission
 


Policy

All children of school age should be provided with 12 years of education. This includes children with special educational needs who can become contributing members of society if an appropriate educational programme is provided.

The policy document on Special Education was published in 1996, under the title, “Policy Guidelines of Special Education”.  Additional supporting documents are: Headmaster’s/Principal’s Handbook on Special Education, Handbook for Learning Assistance Teachers, and Teachers’ Handbook on Special Education.
 


Vision

Special Education Unit is working toward a vision of including all students or children with special educational needs and providing them with appropriate educational programmes, so that they can become contributing members of society. 
 


Mission

The Special Education Unit is committed to the development of the country’s nation building and takes an active role in promoting the quality of education. This includes students with special educational needs who can become contributing members of society through appropriate educational programmes in inclusive schools.

 

Philosophy

All children are able to learn given an appropriate learning environment. Appropriate learning environments can be created within the inclusive school.  The inclusive school is one which provides appropriate instruction for all children based on their individual level of ability.
