13TH ASEAN EDUCATION MINISTERS MEETING (13TH ASED) AND RELATED MEETINGS
BURIRAM PROVINCE, THAILAND – Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education, Brunei Darussalam attended the 13th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting (13th ASED) and Related Meetings which was held on 25 August 2024 in Buriram Province, Thailand.
This year, the 13th ASED meeting and related meetings were organized by the Ministry of Education of Thailand as the chair, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat, attended by the Ministers from Lao PDR, Myanmar and the Philippines. While Deputy Ministers from Singapore and Vietnam as well as Senior Officials from Cambodia, Indonesia and Malaysia also attended as their respective country participants with Timor-Leste participating as an observer. The meetings also saw representation from the ASEAN Dialogue partners.
The opening ceremony was officiated by His Excellency Police General Permpoon Chidchob and saw the participation of Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and Senior Officials from all ASEAN Member States, along with representatives from ASEAN Dialogue Partners. The opening ceremony featured performances by students from Buriram and was also attended by over 10,000 Thai teachers.
Following the theme of “Transforming Education in the Digital Era” education ministers from ASEAN Member States had the opportunity to share their respective educational priorities and strategies, particularly in the context of transforming education through digital initiatives.
In her statement, Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah shared Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to transforming education through digital initiatives with the launching of the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam’s Digital Transformation Plan 2023 – 2027 which focuses on three main areas namely Educational Technology; Management Technology; and Enabling Policies and Infrastructure. The plan supports the nation's goal of becoming a Smart Nation and is aligned with the vision of Wawasan Brunei 2035. Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah further outlined the Ministry’s efforts in improving digital literacy, including upgrading IT infrastructure, creating SMART classrooms, organising professional development workshops for teachers and through the publication of the Blended Learning Guidelines.
Prior to the convening of Ministerial-level meetings, senior official level meetings were held from 23 August 2024 to 24 August 2024 at the same venue. Representing Brunei Darussalam at the meetings was Yang Mulia Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Ministry of Education, accompanied by officers from the Ministry of Education.
At the meetings, ASEAN Education Senior Officials addressed current regional education issues and reviewed progress of the work plan, initiatives and activities under the education sector. Yang Mulia Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati updated the meeting on the current progress of activities led by the Ministry of Education under the ASEAN Work Plan on Education 2021-2025. The delegation also had the opportunity to visit two schools in Buriram Province, Thailand.

MESYUARAT MENTERI-MENTERI PENDIDIKAN ASEAN KALI KE-13 (13TH ASED)
DAN MESYUARAT-MESYUARAT BERKAITAN
WILAYAH BURIRAM, THAILAND – Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Menteri Pendidikan, Negara Brunei Darussalam telah menghadiri Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pendidikan ASEAN kali ke-13 (13th ASED) dan mesyuarat-mesyuarat berkaitan yang diadakan pada 25 Ogos 2024 di Wilayah Buriram, Thailand.
Pada tahun ini, mesyuarat ASED kali ke-13 dan mesyuarat-mesyuarat berkaitan dianjurkan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan Thailand selaku pengerusi dengan kerjasama pihak Sekretariat ASEAN, dan dihadiri oleh Menteri-Menteri Pendidikan dari Republik Demokratik Rakyat Lao, Republik Kesatuan Myanmar dan Republik Filipina. Manakala Timbalan-Timbalan Menteri Pendidikan dari Republik Singapura dan Republik Sosialis Vietnam serta pegawai-pegawai kanan dari Kerajaan Kemboja, Republik Indonesia dan Malaysia menghadiri sebagai wakil negara masing-masing. Timbalan Menteri Pendidikan Timor-Leste juga menghadiri mesyuarat tersebut sebagai pemerhati. Mesyuarat tersebut juga melibatkan penyertaan daripada rakan dialog ASEAN.
Mesyuarat telah dirasmikan oleh Tuan Yang Terutama Police General Permpoon Chidchob dan dihadiri oleh Menteri-Menteri, Timbalan-Timbalan Menteri, dan Pegawai-Pegawai Kanan dari semua Negara Anggota ASEAN, bersama dengan wakil daripada Rakan Dialog ASEAN. Upacara pembukaan tersebut menyaksikan beberapa persembahan oleh pelajar-pelajar dari Buriram dan turut dihadiri oleh seramai 10,000 orang guru dari Thailand.
Berdasarkan tema “Mentransformasikan Pendidikan dalam Era Digital” ketua-ketua delegasi dari Negara Anggota ASEAN berpeluang untuk mengongsikan keutamaan dan strategi pendidikan masing-masing, khususnya dalam konteks transformasi pendidikan melalui inisiatif-inisiatif digital.
Dalam kenyataannya, Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah mengongsikan komitmen Negara Brunei Darussalam ke arah mentransformasikan pendidikan melalui inisiatif digital, di mana, Kementerian Pendidikan Negara Brunei Darussalam telah melancarkan Pelan Transformasi Digital 2023 – 2027 yang memfokuskan kepada tiga bidang utama iaitu Teknologi Pendidikan; Pengurusan Teknologi; dan Pelaksanaan Dasar dan Infrastruktur. Pelan berkenaan menyokong matlamat negara untuk menjadi Negara Pintar dan sejajar dengan visi Wawasan Brunei 2035. Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah seterusnya menggariskan usaha-usaha Kementerian dalam meningkatkan literasi digital, termasuk menaik taraf infrastruktur IT; mewujudkan bilik darjah SMART; mengadakan bengkel pembangunan profesional bagi guru-guru; dan menerbitkan Buku Garis Panduan Blended Learning.
