The International Relations Division consists of one Head of Division and six (06) International Desk Officers with the assistance of three (03) staff members.

The International Relations Division is responsible for the preparation and the planning of annual regional and international commitment of the Ministry of Education as well as reviewing, monitoring and reporting of developments in the programmes, projects and activities participated in or conducted by the Ministry of Education as a member of regional and international organisations.

Participation of the Ministry of Education at the regional and international levels is aimed to develop the educational system and enhance the quality of education in accordance with the requirements of the Brunei Vision 2035 and the strategic plan of the Ministry of Education 2018-2022.



Objectives
  • ​Enhancing and strengthening of diplomatic relations, bilateral and multilateral cooperation in education.
  • Learning and sharing information and experiences on effective strategies, projects and best practices in education.
  • Assisting in the formulation and the updating of national education policies and regulations up to the standards of the education policies and regulations of the more developed countries.


Functions

The International Relations Division is responsible for bilateral and multilateral activities at regional and international levels as follows:

1. To provide and coordinate work plans and commitment abroad for the Minister of Education, Deputy Minister of Education, Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries and Director-General of Education.

2. To coordinate high-level visits from international stakeholders and counterparts in education from abroad.

3. To coordinate and monitor the country's involvement in projects, programmes and collaborative activities in the field of education between Brunei Darussalam and its partner countries, as well as organised by regional and international organisations such as ASEAN, SEAMEO, UNESCO, ISESCO, COMMONWEALTH, ASEM, APEC, dialogue, consultation partners and sectoral agencies.

4. To provide information and data in terms of country position and working papers, talking points, bilateral information in education cooperation for the use of conferences, meetings, discussions, and collaborative planning at regional and international level.

5. To coordinate the process of signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and the Letter of Agreement in the field of education with Ministries abroad, regional and international education institutions and agencies. 

6. To coordinate and monitor the implementation of approved educational projects under the jurisdiction of a Joint Working Group Meeting as per agreed and signed in the MOU and MOA.

7. As the Secretariat to the National Commission of Brunei Darussalam for UNESCO, the Internationa Relations Division is responsible in planning and coordinating meetings and training programmes in collaboration with Permanent Representative Office of Brunei Darussalam to UNESCO in Paris, France, as well as UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok, Jakarta, and other Asia-Pacific region.

8. To conduct research and assessment in relation to programmes, projects and activities organised at the regional and international level participated by the Ministry of Education.

9. To collect, analyse and formulate meeting reports and documents, conferences, forums, seminars, workshops received from organisations, institutions and agencies abroad to be distributed and shared with departments, divisions, units under the Ministry of Education and its associated stakeholder.
