12 Muharram 1435/ 16 November 2013 - In order to realize the desire of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on improving reading in the country, the Ministry of Education of Brunei Darussalam today launched a ‘Reading Campaign 2013’. It is launched to increase awareness of the importance of reading culture among the community and to promote involvement and society’s support in order to generate and catalyse literacy skills among students and children in this country. The slogan for this year’s campaign is “Masyarakat Membaca, Negara Maju Jaya” and the theme is “Bisaitah Kitani Membaca”. The launching ceremony was held simultaneously in four districts in the country.
The citizens of Ministry of Education also share the common concern and sense of responsibility to help ease the burden of suffering for the victims of the Philippine’s Typhoon Haiyan. Through the campaign, Ministry of Education will also collect donations for ‘Tabung Kemanusiaan Bencana Alam Filipina” (TKBAF).
1. Brunei-Muara District
The launching was held at the Atrium in Airport Mall, Berakas. Present as the guest of honour was the Minister of Education himself, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong.
To welcome the guest of honour was the Co-Chair of the event in Brunei-Muara district, Hj Rahman bin Hj Nawi, Acting Director of Curriculum Development, Ministry of Education and Hj Kasim bin Hj Mohd Yassin, Acting Director of Schools, Department of Schools, Ministry of Education.
The event was jointly organized by the Department of Curriculum Development and the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education.
2. Tutong District
The launching was held at the Sekolah Rendah Perpindahan Kampong Bukit Beruang II hall. Present as the guest of honour is the Deputy Minister of Education, Yang Mulia Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Yusoff bin Haji Awang Ismail.
To welcome the guest of honour was the Co-Chair of the event in Tutong District, Pg Shahminan bin Pg Hj Mohd Salleh, Director of Administration and Services, Ministry of Education.
The event was jointly organized by the Department of Administration and Services, Ministry of Education.
3. Temburong District
The launching was held at the evening at the Concourse Hall, Building Bumiputera, Bangar Temburong . Present as the guest of honour for this district is Yang Mulia Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Commanders, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.
Arrival of Guest of Honour at the event were welcomed by the Chairman of the Ministry of Education Reading Campaign 2013 Temburong District , Acting Director of Co-Curriculum Education, Pg Suhaimi bin Pg Hj Bakar. Honour was also honoured guests make reading activities together students and the next witness Reading teamwork and then saw the exhibition and sale. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Co-Currilum, Ministry of Education.
4. Belait District
The launching was held at the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) Seria. Present as the guest of honour is Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Hjh Adina binti Othman, Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Welcoming the guest of honour at the event is the Co-Chair of the Reading Campaign in Belait, Hj Rahim bin Derus, the Director of Information Technology and Communications, Ministry of Education.
The event was jointly organized by the Department of Information Technology and Communications, Ministry of Education.
Also attending the ceremony held throughout the country – Ambassadors ; Permanent Secretaries ; Deputy Permanent Secretaries ; Government Officers, District Heads of Department senior officials as well as officials from the Ministry of education , Ministry of Home Affairs , Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports , the chiefs and heads the Head of Village.
