Feb 16, 2021

In continuing the achievements of ‘Progresif for Schools’, the year-long partnership inked between Progresif Sdn Bhd and the Ministry of Education (MOE) in September last year, Progresif and the MOE today launched the ‘Donate Data’ campaign, which will see the technology and communications company sponsoring WiFi connections to ten local schools and enabling the public to contribute to the schools’ data quota.

At a launch ceremony held at the Progresif headquarters in Gadong, Progresif and the MOE launched ‘Donate Data’, a program that has already seen Progresifsponsor infrastructure to provide ten local schools with broadband internet and create a channel for the public to donate the data needed for students to connect to the worldwide web of online learning. Among those in attendance were Yang Mulia Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education, as the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Tuan Edzwan Zukri, Deputy Chairman of Progresif, Progresif CEO, Hajah Nurul Haniah binti Haji Jaafar, Yang Mulia Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary (Core Education); Yang Mulia Dr. Chin Wei Keh, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education); Yang Mulia Awang Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) and Yang Mulia  Dr. Awang Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Acting Director General.

In a speech at the launch, the Progresif CEO stated that “by providing the infrastructure for arguably the most important educationalresource in this era – highspeed internet – and innovating simple ways for the community to contribute donations of data to the schools, we are creating better conditions for the success of our youth and the efficacy of our education system in accordance with Brunei’s Wawasan 2035 objectives”.

Just 140 days since the partnership was inked, Progresif and its collaborators have managed arguably the most significant breakthrough of the Progresif for Schools campaign, laying the foundation for the public to directly contribute to the education of Brunei’s students.

Through the ‘Donate Data’ platform, Progresif subscribers may simply SMS DATAEDU1/5/10/15/20/50/100 to 38222, while non-Progresifsubscribers may use Progresif PAY or BIBD Online (with Baiduri soon to follow) and know that their contribution is broadening the horizons of the nation’s youth. The SMS line was officially opened the Deputy Minister of Education and Progresif’s Deputy Chairman at the launch.

As part of the program, the first ten schools to become Progresif’s benefactors are Pusat Tingkatan Enam Sengkurong, Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, Sekolah Menengah Rimba II, Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan, Pusat Tingkatan Enam Tutong, Sekolah Menengah Perdana Wazir, Pusat Tingkatan Enam Belait, Pusat Tingkatan Enam Meragang, Sekolah Menengah Sultan Sharif Ali and Sekolah Menengah Sultan Hassan.

Since opening their doors in 2015, Progresif has staunchly committed itself to advocacy for Education as a core pillar of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). From creating teaching tools for local schools in their Progresif Magazine, to promoting passionate teachers in their ‘Progresif Heroes’ campaigns, and their sponsorship of big school events like the International School Brunei Borneo Global Issues Conference (ISB BGIC), the company has long been committed to corporate stewardship of important social and educational issues.
