The symposium was held to celebrate SEAMEO's 56th Anniversary and aimed to present the
most remarkable achievements and future plans of SEAMEO Regional Centres for the
development of education, science and culture for the Southeast Asian countries.
SEAMEO VOCTECH (SV) was represented by the Centre Director, Mr Alias Haji Abu Bakar as one
of the speakers in Panel 1 on ‘SEAMEO Centres: Yesterday-Today-Tomorrow for Education’. He
highlighted on the strong partnership with GIZ-RECOTVET on SEA-VET.Net platform, a portal
that provides the best practices, empirical studies as well as innovations in the area of TVET,
and the success of SV flagship programmes, Training of Trainers and Training of Assessors
Certification Programme with Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) of up to 98%, where participants
were able to deliver their own training with quality training competencies at their own
centre/institution.
In addition, during the symposium, SV presented a video which enumerated other initiatives,
projects and collaborations such as the e-learning platform, ASEAN Workplan Outcome 4, which
is to enhance access to quality initial and continuing TVET in response to the demands of the
changing labour market, collaboration with ASEAN TVET Council (ATC) that will pave the way in
advancing TVET in the region, collaboration with CHINA-ASEAN Education Cooperation for
cross-country partnership programmes, and SEAMEO VOCTECH Office at Wuxi Institute of
Technology for the Teachers Capacity Building Programme, along with high impact research
projects with Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET), Coventry
University and GIZ-ASEAN.
Looking forward, SV has recently forged a partnership with Labtech Technology for hands-on
virtual simulation training software, and with ADE Finland on AR and VR Technology integration
in SV’s training programmes. SV is currently proposing and preparing to embark on a ground-
breaking research project to investigate IR 4.0 Readiness for TVET Institutions in ASEAN.
