IN THE VIRTUAL 2ND ASEAN-JAPAN SYMPOSIUM ON MARINE PLASTIC WASTE EDUCATION
Berakas – The Ministry of Education through the Science, Technology and Environment Partnership Centre (STEP) has coordinated the participation of students and teachers at the 2nd ASEAN-Japan Symposium on Marine Plastic Waste Education organised by the ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) which was held online today.
A total of eight ASEAN Member States (AMS) and Japan attended the symposium with a total of 300 students participants from 25 primary and secondary schools including sixth form centres in Brunei Darussalam as well as officers from STEP Centre, Ministry of Education participated.
The first session of the symposium ‘Spreading the Light to Nurture Good Habits for Cleaner Oceans’, was attended by Awang Misli bin Moksin, Senior Education Officer from STEP Centre as Project Partner of the ASEAN-Japan EcoSchool Program from Brunei Darussalam and ASEAN-Japan Centre Student Fellows and other Project Partners from AMS and Japan.
The second session of the symposium titled ‘Initiatives of the young generation in ASEAN-Japan to reduce marine plastic waste’ was represented by two students from Sekolah Rendah Lumapas, Awang Muhammad Faqeeh Rayyan bin Loqman and Dayang Darwisyah Nabilah binti Jamel who recorded a video presentation on the initiative implemented by the school which are the use of plastic bottles for decoration and reusing waste materials to make robots.
Through the symposium, the participants also pledged to nurture good habits for cleaner oceans. The act signified a shared commitment to change behaviors and promote a conscious effort to reduce plastic waste among the youth in the region.
The participation of students from Brunei Darussalam is line with the Ministry of Education’s commitment to Brunei Darussalam’s National Climate Change Policy (BNCCP) Strategy 10: Awareness and Education.

Berakas - Kementerian Pendidikan melalui Pusat Kerjasama Sains, Teknologi dan Alam Sekitar (STEP) hari ini telah menyelaras penyertaan pelajar-pelajar dan guru-guru ke 2nd ASEAN-Japan Symposium on Marine Plastic Waste Education yang dianjurkan oleh ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) secara maya.
Sebanyak lapan buah Negara Anggota ASEAN (AMS) dan Jepun menghadiri simposium tersebut, dan seramai 300 orang peserta pelajar daripada 25 buah sekolah rendah dan sekolah menengah termasuk pusat tingkatan enam di Negara Brunei Darussalam serta pegawai-pegawai dari Pusat STEP, Kementerian Pendidikan telah menyertainya.
Sesi pertama simposium iaitu Spreading the Light to Nurture Good Habits for Cleaner Oceans telah disertai oleh Awang Misli bin Moksin, Pegawai Pelajaran Kanan dari Pusat STEP selaku Project Partner ASEAN-Japan EcoSchool Programme daripada Negara Brunei Darussalam dan ASEAN-Japan Centre Student Fellows dan Project Partner dari negara ASEAN dan Jepun.
Sesi kedua simposium bertajuk Initiatives of the young generation in ASEAN-Japan to reduce marine plastic waste telah diwakili oleh dua orang pelajar dari Sekolah Rendah Lumapas iaitu Awang Muhammad Faqeeh Rayyan bin Loqman dan Dayang Darwisyah Nabilah binti Jamel yang telah membuat rakaman video pembentangan mengenai inisiatif yang dilaksanakan oleh sekolah iaitu penggunaan botol plastik sebagai dekorasi dan penggunaan semula sisa sampah untuk membuat robot.
Melalui simposium tersebut, para peserta juga berikrar untuk memupuk tabiat yang baik untuk lautan yang lebih bersih. Ikrar tersebut menandakan komitmen bersama untuk mengubah tingkah laku dan menggalakkan usaha serta kesedaran untuk mengurangkan sisa plastik di kalangan belia di rantau ini.
Penyertaan pelajar-pelajar Negara Brunei Darussalam ke simposium ini adalah selaras dengan komitmen Kementerian Pendidikan terhadap Dasar Perubahan Iklim Negara Brunei Darussalam (BNCCP) Strategi 10: Kesedaran dan Pendidikan.
