THE 6th SCHOOL LEADERS CONVENTION 2024

JERUDONG – The Ministry of Education today held the 6th School Leaders Convention 2024. The convention was organized by the Department of Educators Management in collaboration with the Department of Schools at the BRIDEX Convention Hall, Jerudong.

Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education.​

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by a welcoming speech from Yang Mulia Dayang Masdiah binti Awang Haji Tuah, the Director of Educators Management, Ministry of Education, as Co-Chairperson of the Convention. The event continued with a speech from the Guest of honour followed by the opening of the convention and the launching of the Digital Citizenship Framework and Handbook. The development of the framework was led by the Department of Curriculum Development through collaboration with other departments in the Ministry of Education including school principals since the School Leaders Convention 2021 which focuses on equipping stakeholders with comprehensive knowledge, relevant skills, attitudes, and core values as responsible users in the digital world.

The event continued with the keynote speech entitled 'STEM Education in Singapore Schools' by Yang Mulia Mr. Teo Kok Hong, Director of the Sciences Branch, Curriculum Planning and Development Division, Ministry of Education, the Republic of Singapore followed by a question-and-answer session. The keynote speaker oversees the curriculum review, syllabus and resource design and development of STEM-related subjects in general education and the promotion and organization of STEM-related initiatives in Singapore.


A total of 346 participants and invitees consisting of school leaders from both government and private Primary and Secondary Schools, Colleges, and Sixth Form Centers of the Ministry of Education and schools from the Islamic Studies Department of the Ministry of Religious Affairs attended the convention.


With the theme "Quality Leaders, Quality Education", the convention aims to strengthen systemic coherence within the Ministry of Education through a culture of collaboration between all stakeholders. These include strengthening school leaders' leadership capacity and competencies, enhancing shared accountability between departments and schools for quality implementation of the Ministry of Education's initiatives as well as acknowledging and recognizing schools' contributions and achievements.


The sub-theme for this year's convention is “STEAM Education and Skills", which aims to give greater awareness and deeper understanding about the development of STEAM Competencies of students in Brunei Darussalam.

The morning session concluded with a workshop conducted by the Science, Technology and Environment Partnership Centre (STEP) and Entrepreneurship Innovation Centre (EIC) of the Ministry of Education with the title STEAM Competencies Rubrics.


The afternoon session continued with a forum from the heads of departments and school leaders. The forum titled "Nurturing Future Ready Learners" discussed the efforts of various parties in improving joint accountability and further improving the quality of the implementation of initiatives in schools.


The convention concluded with the presentation of letters of appointment for new school leaders and school incentives for government schools that achieve excellence in public examinations. A total of eight (08) primary schools have been awarded for their excellent achievement exceeding 90% grade A-C in the Primary School Assessment (PSR) 2023, two (02) primary schools were awarded for their achievement in the National Key Performance Indicators (KPI) of 90% from 2021 to 2023, three (03) secondary schools for achieving above 60% obtaining 5 'O' levels/IGCSE in the Brunei-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level Examination 2023, one secondary school achieving distinction in the BTEC Program 2023, and one sixth form center received an achievement award for achieving 80% obtaining 3 'A' level and above in the Brunei-Cambridge GCE 'A' Level Examination 2023.


A total of eight (08) primary schools and two (02) secondary schools were awarded for their increased achievement of grade A-C in PSR from 2021 to 2023 and 5 'O' Levels and above in the BC-GCE 'O' Level/IGCSE respectively. The presentation of incentive awards was also given to 11 primary schools, 10 secondary schools, and three (03) sixth form centers for their achievements in the Whole School Evaluation (WSE) 2023.


The presentation of School Incentive Awards ended with three (3) primary schools, three (3) secondary schools and three (3) sixth form centers receiving awards for School Cleanliness and Safety Evaluation Programme.


Also present were Permanent Secretaries, Vice-Chancellors, Rector, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Departments, senior officers, heads of clusters, and school principals of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

MAJLIS KONVENSYEN PEMIMPIN SEKOLAH KE-6 TAHUN 2024

JERUDONG – Kementerian Pendidikan pada hari ini telah mengadakan Majlis Konvensyen Pemimpin Sekolah Ke-6 bagi tahun 2024. Majlis konvensyen ini dikendalikan oleh Jabatan Pengurusan Pendidik dengan kerjasama Jabatan Sekolah-Sekolah, Kementerian Pendidikan bertempat di Dewan Persidangan BRIDEX, Jerudong.


Hadir selaku Tetamu Kehormat majlis ialah Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Menteri Pendidikan.


Majlis dimulakan dengan bacaan Surah Al-Fatihah dan Doa Selamat diikuti dengan ucapan alu-aluan daripada Yang Mulia Dayang Masdiah binti Awang Haji Tuah, Pengarah Pengurusan Pendidik, Kementerian Pendidikan, selaku Pengerusi Bersama Konvensyen.


Acara diikuti dengan ucapan tetamu kehormat dan perasmian konvensyen serta pelancaran “Rangka Kerja dan Buku Panduan Digital Citizenship". Rangka Kerja yang diterajui oleh Jabatan Perkembangan Kurikulum ini merupakan hasil usaha sama pelbagai pihak di Kementerian Pendidikan termasuk para pemimpin sekolah melalui landasan Konvensyen Pemimpin Sekolah sejak tahun 2021. Ianya bertujuan sebagai panduan komprehensif kepeada pihak berkepentingan dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan, kemahiran yang relevan, sikap dan nilai teras sebagai pengguna yang bertanggungjawab dalam dunia digital.


Acara seterusnya ialah ucaptama bertajuk 'STEM Education in Singapore Schools' oleh Yang Mulia Mr. Teo Kok Hong, Pengarah Sains, Bahagian Perancangan dan Perkembangan Kurikulum, Kementerian Pendidikan Republik Singapura. Penceramah Undangan (Keynote Speaker) ini berperanan dalam menyelia semakan kurikulum, sukatan Pelajaran dan rekabentuk sumber serta pembangunan matapelajaran berkaitan dengan STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) dalam Pendidikan Am Republik Singapura. Majlis diteruskan dengan sesi soal jawab bersama penceramah undangan.


Seramai 346 orang peserta dan para jemputan yang terdiri daripada para pemimpin sekolah daripada Sekolah Rendah dan Menengah, Maktab dan Pusat Tingkatan Enam Kerajaan dan swasta Kementerian Pendidikan serta sekolah-sekolah daripada Jabatan Pengajian Islam, Kementerian Hal Ehwal Ugama menghadiri Konvensyen berkenaan.


Dengan tema “Pemimpin Berkualiti, Pendidikan Berkualiti", konvensyen ini bertujuan untuk mengukuhkan kesepaduan sistemik di dalam Kementerian Pendidikan dengan memupuk budaya berkolaborasi antara semua pihak yang berkepentingan. Objektif konvensyen ini merangkumi pengukuhan kapasiti dan kompetensi Pemimpin Sekolah, peningkatan akauntabiliti bersama diantara jabatan-jabatan dan sekolah-sekolah dalam pelaksanaan inisiatif Kementerian Pendidikan dan pengiktirafan kepada sumbangan dan pencapaian sekolah-sekolah.


Sub tema Konvensyen kali ini ialah Pendidikan dan Kemahiran STEAM atau STEAM Education and Skills yang bertujuan untuk memberi kesedaran dan kefahaman tentang perkembangan kompetensi STEAM bagi pelajar-pelajar di Negara Brunei Darussalam. 


Sesi pagi ditutup dengan sebuah bengkel bertajuk: STEAM Competencies Rubrics yang disampaikan oleh Pusat Kerjasama Sains, Teknologi dan Alam Sekitar, dan Pusat Keusahawanan Inovasi, Kementerian Pendidikan.


Sesi petang pula diteruskan dengan sebuah forum dari ketua-ketua jabatan dan pemimpin-pemimpin sekolah. Forum   bertajuk “Nurturing Future Ready learners" tersebut   membincangkan usaha pelbagai pihak dalam mempertingkatkan akauntabiliti bersama dan kualiti perlaksanaan inisiatif-inisiatif di sekolah-sekolah.


Konvensyen tersebut diakhiri dengan penyampaian surat pelantikan pemimpin-pemimpin sekolah baru dan insentif sekolah bagi sekolah-sekolah kerajaan yang mencapai kecemerlangan dalam peperiksaan awam. Sebanyak lapan (08) buah sekolah rendah telah mencapai keputusan cemerlang melepasi sasaran 90% gred A-C dalam Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (PSR) bagi tahun 2023, dua (02) buah sekolah rendah mencapai Nasional KPI (90%) dari tahun 2021 hingga 2023 dalam Penilaian Sekolah Rendah, tiga (03) buah sekolah menengah mencapai atau melepasi sasaran 60% memperolehi 5 'O' level/IGCSE ke atas dalam Peperiksaan Brunei-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level dan sebuah sekolah menengah menghasilkan pencapaian 'Distinction' dalam Program Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) bagi tahun 2023, dan sebuah pusat tingkatan enam telah menerima anugerah pencapaian atau melepasi 80% memeperolehi 3 'A' level ke atas bagi Peperiksaan Brunei-Cambridge GCE 'A' Level bagi tahun 2023.


Sebanyak lapan (08) buah sekolah rendah menunujukkan peratus peningkatan gred A-C dari tahun 2021 hingga 2023 dalam Penilaian Sekolah Rendah, dua (02) buah sekolah menengah menunjukkan peratus peningkatan memperolehi 5 'O' level ke atas dalam Peperiksaan BC-GCE 'O' Level/IGCSE dari tahun 2021 hingga 2023. Penyampaian Anugerah Insentif Sekolah juga diberikan kepada 11 buah sekolah rendah, 10 sekolah menengah dan tiga (03) pusat tingkatan enam bagi pencapaian dalam Penilaian Whole School Evaluation (WSE) 2023.


Penyampaian anugerah insentif diakhiri dengan tiga (3) buah sekolah rendah, tiga (3) sekolah menengah dan tiga (03) pusat tingkatan enam menerima anugerah bagi Program Penilaian Kebersihan dan Keselamatan Sekolah.


Turut hadir di konvensyen berkenaan ialah Yang Mulia Setiausaha-Setiausaha Tetap, Naib-Naib Canselor, Rektor, Timbalan-Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap, ketua-ketua Jabatan, pegawai-pegawai kanan, ketua-ketua Kluster dan pemimpin-pemimpin sekolah Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kementerian Hal Ehwal Ugama.
