Opening Ceremony of the Regional Training Workshop on Developing Talents of Women in Science, Technology and Innovation

Monday, 7 October 2019 – Yang Mulia Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) Ministry of Education as the Secretary General of the Brunei Darussalam National Commission to the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), officially launched the Opening Ceremony of the Regional Training Workshop on Developing Talents of Women in Science, Technology and Innovation at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa'adul Bolkiah Institute of Health Science (PAPRSB IHS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). Also present at the Opening Ceremony was Yang Berhormat Nik Hafimi binti Haadi and Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash'ari, Members of the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam.

 

The Opening Ceremony began with an Opening Speech by Dr Aicha Bammoun, Programme Specialist at the Directorate of Science and Technology, ISESCO as the Representative of ISESCO, whom highlighted that the contribution of women scientists in research, development and education in the fields of Science, Technology and Innovation has been of great concern and that there is a need to put more focus on the involvement of women in STI.

 

In the Welcoming Address delivered by Permanent Secretary (Higher Education), Yang Mulia Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad indicated how the regional workshop can build the capacities of women working STI in order to enhance their chances of progress. The Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) went on to call for ISESCO Member States to collective address the issue and find ways to develop women's participation in STI.

The three-day event is funded by ISESCO and co-hosted by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry and Universiti Brunei Darussalam as part of the framework to celebrate Bandar Seri Begawan as the Islamic Culture Capital for the Asian Region 2019, and is attended by eighty (80) representatives from ISESCO Headquarters in Rabat, Morocco as well as other ISESCO Member States, various stakeholders in Brunei Darussalam.

 

This morning's Opening Ceremony was also attended by Yang Mulia Yang Mulia Dr. Chin Wei Keh, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education and senior officers from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry.

Isnin, 7 Oktober 2019 – Yang Mulia Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Setiausaha Tetap (Pengajian Tinggi) Kementerian Pendidikan selaku Setiausaha Agung Suruhanjaya Kebangsaan Negara Brunei Darussalam kepada Pertubuhan Pendidikan, Sains dan Kebudayaan Islam (ISESCO), telahpun melancarkan Majlis Perasmian Regional Training Workshop on Developing Talents of Women in Science, Technology and Innovation bertempat di Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa'adul Bolkiah Institute of Health Science (PAPRSB IHS) di Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). Turut menghadiri Majlis Perasmian berkenaan ialah Yang Berhormat Nik Hafimi binti Haadi dan Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash'ari, Ahli-Ahli Majlis Mesyuarat Negara Brunei Darussalam.

 

Majlis Perasmian dimulakan dengan Ucapan Pembukaan oleh Dr Aicha Bammoun, Pakar Program di Direktorat Sains dan Teknologi, ISESCO sebagai Wakil Pertubuhan ISESCO, yang menekankan bahawa sumbangan para saintis wanita dalam penyelidikan, pembangunan dan pendidikan dalam bidang Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (STI) telah menjadi perhatian utama dan terdapat keperluan untuk memberi tumpuan lebih kepada penglibatan wanita dalam STI.

 

Yang Mulia Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Setiausaha Tetap (Pengajian Tinggi), Kementerian Pendidikan semasa ucapan alu-aluan beliau turut menyatakan bagaimana bengkel serantau tersebut dapat membina kapasiti wanita dalam STI untuk meningkatkan lagi peluang mereka untuk kemajuan. Yang Mulia Setiausaha Tetap (Pengajian Tinggi) turut menyeru negara-negara ahli Pertubuhan ISESCO untuk sama-sama menangani isu tersebut secara kolektif terutamanya dalam meningkatkan lagi penyertaan kaum wanita di berbagai peringkat dalam bidang STI.

 

Seterusnya, bengkel selama tiga (03) hari ini dibiayai oleh Pertubuhan ISESCO dan dianjurkan bersama oleh Kementerian Pendidikan, Kementerian Tenaga (Tenaga dan Tenaga Manusia) dan Perindustrian dan Universiti Brunei Darussalam sebagai sebahagian daripada rangka kerja untuk meraikan Bandar Seri Begawan sebagai Islamic Culture Capital for the Asian Region 2019, dan dihadiri oleh lapan puluh (80) wakil yang terdiri daripada wakil-wakil Ibu Pejabat ISESCO di Rabat, Maghribi, negara-negara ahli ISESCO dan pihak-pihak berkepentingan di Negara Brunei Darussalam.

 

Majlis Perasmian pada pagi ini juga turut dihadiri oleh Yang Mulia Dr. Chin Wei Keh, Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap (Pengajian Tinggi), Kementerian Pendidikan dan pegawai-pegawai kanan dari Kementerian Pendidikan, Kementerian Tenaga (Tenaga dan Tenaga Manusia) dan Perindustrian.
