BRUNEI TEACHER RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS PRINCESS MAHA CHAKRI AWARD

11th OCTOBER 2017. Bangkok, Thailand - Madam Lim Soh Ngo, a teacher from Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah today received the Princess Maha Chakri Award in recognition for her professional work in teaching Chemistry. She received the award from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn during the 2nd Princess Maha Chakri Award Ceremony held here.

Aside from her role as an A-Level Chemistry teacher at Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, Madame Ngo has worked in various capacities in her college including mentoring other teachers and an advisor to the Staff Professional Development Division. She also actively participates in various professional activities including sharing her expertise by conducting workshops.

Madam Lim Soh Ngo is a very passionate and dedicated teacher, having taught Chemistry for 27 years. As a testament to her excellent service, she was awarded the Excellent Service Medal (Pingat Indah Kerja Baik) in 2011 and the Brunei Darussalam Excellent Teacher Award (Anugerah Guru Cemerlang) in 2012 by His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Eleven award recipients (including Madam Lim) from the Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) member countries each received a medal, a certificate and a cheque of USD$10,000 for their respective contribution to education.

During the award ceremony, Madam Lim also gave a presentation of her achievements to an audience of about 400 participants. While in Bangkok, Madam Lim and fellow awardees of the Princess Maha Chakri Award had the opportunity to visit the Royal Crematorium for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The Princess Maha Chakri Award is a tribute to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for her contributions and outstanding achievements. The Award honours highly dedicated teachers in Southeast Asia whose accomplishments make significant contributions to education and human development and who deserve international recognition; supports and promotes development of the teaching profession and educational development; and also aims at strengthening international relations in the field of education.

Also present at the award ceremony was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Datin Paduka Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd. Salleh.
