3RD ANNUAL LIFELONG LEARNING INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT DAY (ALLIED) 2023

ANGGEREK DESA – The Ministry of Education through the Lifelong Learning Centre (L3C) and in collaboration with Brunei Innovation Lab (BIL) today held the 3rd Annual Lifelong Learning Industry Engagement Day (ALLIED) 2023 at the Banquet Hall, Mulia Hotel.

Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Mulia Ir. Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications.

The event was attended by over 200 participants from both government agencies and private companies with this year's theme “Cultivating an AI-Ready Workforce for Future of Work". This year's ALLIED aims to support the growth of the digital ecosystem in Brunei Darussalam which is firmly in line with the Digital Economy Master Plan 2025 by utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

The event began with a welcoming remark by Dr. Sheikh Lukman bin Sheikh Abdul Hamid, Acting Director of L3C followed by a keynote presentation titled “Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Possibilities for a Future-Ready Workforce" by Yang Mulia Dr. Zaid Omar, Associate Professor of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as the keynote speaker.

The event is continued with a special presentation on “Cultivating an AI-ready workforce for Future of Work: Navigating via Five Lifelong Learning Capitals?" presented by Yang Mulia Professor Séamus Ó Tuama, Director of Centre for Adult Continuing Education (ACE) and Chair of ASEM LLL Hub". The final session of the event was a panel discussion focusing on this year's theme moderated by the Acting Director of L3C. The discussion involved three (3) panelists namely: Dr. Zaid Omar, Associate Professor of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM); Professor Séamus Ó Tuama, Director of Centre for Adult Continuing Education (ACE) and Chair of ASEM LLL Hub; Freddie Ting, General Manager of Brunei Innovation Lab (BIL); and Faizal Mahmud, Data Scientist from Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd.


Robotics and Artificial Intelligent Systems Lab (RoboLab) under the School of Digital Science (SDS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD); SkyVision Sdn Bhd and Rumine Corporation also showcased their latest AI projects as exhibitors during the event.

Among the main objectives of the 3rd ALLIED was to Promote better understanding of AI amongst participants in the context of lifelong learning and workforce development; Explore opportunities for cross-collaboration amongst educational institutions and industries in the development of AI-ready workforce in local and international contexts; and provide an avenue for participants to share their main issues and challenges in getting their workforce ready for AI adoption.

ANGGEREK DESA – Kementerian Pendidikan melalui Pusat Pembelajaran Sepanjang Hayat (L3C) dengan kerjasama Brunei Innovation Lab (BIL) pada hari ini telah mengadakan Annual Lifelong Learning Industry Engagement Day (ALLIED) Kali Ke-3 Tahun 2023 bertempat di Banquet Hall, Mulia Hotel.

Hadir selaku Tetamu Kehormat ialah Yang Mulia Ir. Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Setiausaha Tetap, Kementerian Pengangkutan dan Infokomunikasi.\

Seramai lebih kurang 200 orang peserta dari agensi kerajaan dan syarikat swasta telah menghadiri majlis tersebut dengan tema tahun ini “Memupuk Tenaga Kerja Sedia Kecerdasan Buatan (AI) Untuk Masa Depan Kerja". ALLIED kali ini bertujuan untuk mendukung pertumbuhan ekosistem digital di Brunei Darussalam yang teguh sejajar dengan Pelan Induk Ekonomi Digital 2025 dengan memanfaatkan teknologi Kecerdasan Buatan (AI).

Acara dimulakan dengan ucapan alu-aluan oleh Yang Mulia Dr. Sheikh Lukman bin Sheikh Abdul Hamid, Pemangku Pengarah L3C, Kementerian Pendidikan dan seterusnya pembentangan ucaptama bertajuk “Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Possibilities for a Future-Ready Workforce?" yang disampaikan oleh Yang Mulia Dr. Zaid Omar, Associate Professor daripada Fakulti Kejuruteraan Elektrik, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) selaku penceramah ucaptama.

Acara diteruskan lagi dengan pembentangan bertajuk “Cultivating an AI-ready workforce for Future of Work: Navigating via Five Lifelong Learning Capitals?" yang disampaikan oleh Yang Mulia Professor Séamus Ó Tuama, Pengarah Centre for Adult Continuing Education (ACE) dan Pengerusi Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Lifelong Learning Hub. Sesi terakhir bagi acara ini ialah perbincangan panel yang memfokuskan kepada tema pada tahun ini yang dikendalikan oleh Yang Mulia Pemangku Pengarah L3C. Perbincangan tersebut disertai oleh 4 orang ahli panel iaitu Yang Mulia Dr. Zaid Omar, Associate Professor daripada Fakulti Kejuruteraan Elektrik, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM); Yang Mulia Professor Séamus Ó Tuama, Pengarah Centre for Adult Continuing Education (ACE) dan Pengerusi Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Lifelong Learning Hub; Yang Mulia Freddie Ting, Pengurus Besar Brunei Innovation Lab (BIL); dan Yang Mulia Faizal Mahmud, Data Scientist daripada Syarikat Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Sdn Bhd.

Robotics and Artificial Intelligent Systems Lab (RoboLab) di bawah School of Digital Science (SDS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD); SkyVision Sdn Bhd dan Rumine Corporation juga telah mempamerkan projek AI terbaru sebagai peserta pameran semasa acara tersebut.

Antara objektif utama ALLIED kali ke-3 adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman para peserta tentang AI dalam konteks pembelajaran sepanjang hayat dan perkembangan tenaga kerja; menerokai peluang kolaborasi antara institusi pendidikan dan industri dalam perkembangan tenaga kerja sedia AI dalam konteks tempatan dan antarabangsa; dan menyediakan platform bagi para peserta berkongsi isu dan cabaran utama dalam menyediakan tenaga kerja untuk penyerapan AI.
