WORLDSKILLS CONFERENCE 2024 AND
47TH WORLDSKILLS COMPETITION,
LYON, REPUBLIC OF FRANCE
LYON, REPUBLIC OF FRANCE – Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education, Brunei Darussalam attended the WorldSkills Conference 2024 held on the 10th to 12th September 2024 at Eurexpo Lyon, Republic of France. The Conference was held during the 47th WorldSkills Competition that took place from the 11th to 15th September 2024.
With the theme of Moving Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to the Top of the Global Agenda, the Conference discussed the importance of TVET and skills in human and economic development. The Conference saw participations from relevant Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Senior Officials from around the world, along with representatives from international organisations such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), International Labour Organisation (ILO), European Commission (EC), African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), WorldSkills International (WSI) and the WorldSkills Champions Trust (WSCT).
The Opening Session of the Conference was officiated by Her Excellency Catherine Vautrin, Minister for Labour, Health and Solidarity, Republic of France; Her Excellency Nicole Belloubet, Minister for National Education and Young People, Republic of France; and Chris Humphries, President of WSI where they welcomed key stakeholders in the TVET landscape to explore the necessary next steps to move the global TVET agenda forward and create concrete action for countries to strengthen their TVET systems. The Conference also witnessed several panel discussions and roundtables on related topics such as “How Do We Create Excellence in TVET System”, “Tools and Strategies Required for Quality Assurance in TVET”, “Foundational Skills for Better TVET” and many more.
During the Conference, Yang Berhormat Minister of Education also had the opportunity to meet His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Maliki bin Osman, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Education and Foreign Affairs, Republic of Singapore, to discuss bilateral cooperation in the field of education between the two countries.
Yang Berhormat Minister of Education and the delegation from the Ministry of Education also had the opportunity to visit the 47th WorldSkills Competition which is the world’s largest skills competition organized every two years by WSI. The competition features 1,500 young competitors from more than 65 countries competing in 62 skills across six sectors including construction, industry, new technologies, services, food professions, and creative, digital and hospitality.
Yang Berhormat Minister of Education was accompanied by Yang Mulia Awang Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) along with officials from the Ministry of Education.

LYON, REPUBLIK PERANCIS – Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Menteri Pendidikan, Negara Brunei Darussalam telah menghadiri Persidangan Kemahiran Dunia 2024 atau WorldSkills Conference 2024 yang berlangsung pada 10 hingga 12 September 2024 di Eurexpo Lyon, Republik Perancis. Persidangan tersebut berlangsung bersempena Pertandingan Kemahiran Dunia Kali Ke-47 atau 47th WorldSkills Competition yang diadakan bermula pada 11 hingga 15 September 2024.
Dengan tema Moving Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to the Top of the Global Agenda, persidangan tersebut membincangkan kepentingan TVET dan kemahiran dalam pembangunan sumber manusia dan ekonomi. Persidangan dihadiri oleh Menteri-Menteri, Timbalan-Timbalan Menteri dan Pegawai-Pegawai Kanan dari seluruh dunia bersama perwakilan daripada organisasi antarabangsa seperti Pertubuhan Pendidikan, Saintifik dan Kebudayaan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (UNESCO), Pertubuhan Buruh Antarabangsa (ILO), Suruhanjaya Eropah (EC), Agensi Pembangunan Kesatuan Afrika (AUDA-NEPAD), Pertubuhan Kerjasama dan Pembangunan Ekonomi (OECD), WorldSkills International (WSI) & WorldSkills Champions Trust (WSCT).
Sesi Pembukaan Persidangan dimulakan dengan ucapan-ucapan daripada Puan Yang Terutama Catherine Vautrin, Menteri Buruh, Kesihatan dan Perpaduan, Republik Perancis; Puan Yang Terutama Nicole Belloubet, Menteri Pendidikan Kebangsaan dan Belia, Republik Perancis; dan Tuan Chris Humphries, Presiden WSI yang antara lain menyeru pihak-pihak berkepentingan dalam bidang TVET meneroka strategi-strategi untuk menggerakkan agenda global TVET ke hadapan dan mengukuhkan sistem TVET. Persidangan tersebut diisikan dengan beberapa sesi perbincangan panel dan meja bulat mengenai topik-topik yang berkaitan seperti “How Do We Create Excellence in TVET System”; “Tools and Strategies Required for Quality Assurance in TVET”; “Foundational Skills for Better TVET”; dan sebagainya.
Semasa Persidangan tersebut, Yang Berhormat Menteri Pendidikan turut berpeluang mengadakan perjumpaan bersama Tuan Yang Terutama Dr. Mohammad Maliki bin Osman, Menteri di Pejabat Perdana Menteri, Menteri Kedua bagi Pendidikan dan Hal Ehwal Luar, Republik Singapura, bagi membincangkan kerjasama dua hala dalam bidang pendidikan antara kedua-dua negara.
Yang Berhormat Menteri Pendidikan dan rombongan juga berkesempatan mengadakan lawatan ke 47th WorldSkills Competition yang merupakan pertandingan kemahiran terbesar di dunia dianjurkan setiap dua tahun oleh pihak WSI. Pertandingan tersebut disertai oleh seramai 1,500 dari 65 negara yang bersaing dalam 62 kemahiran merentasi enam sektor termasuk pembinaan, industri, teknologi baharu, perkhidmatan, profesion makanan dan kreatif, digital dan hospitaliti.
Yang Berhormat Menteri Pendidikan diiringi oleh Yang Mulia Awang Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap (Pendidikan Teras) dan pegawai-pegawai dari Kementerian Pendidikan.
