PRIZE PRESENTATION FOR STEP CENTRE'S PROGRAMMES 2024

KATOK – The Ministry of Education, through the Science, Technology, and Environment Partnership (STEP) Centre, held the Prize Presentation Ceremony for STEP Centre Programmes for the year 2024. The event took place at Auditorium Hall 1, Sekolah Ugama Arab Menengah Perempuan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha, Katok.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a welcoming speech by the Chairperson of the event, Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Suriani binti Haji Noor Hashim, Head of STEP Centre, Ministry of Education.
Yang Mulia Hajah Nurul Akmar binti Haji Mohd Jaafar, Chief Marketing Officer of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), as the sponsor of the competition in collaboration with Big BWN Project, attended as the Guest of Honour and presented the awards for the Students in STEAM Competition Programme.
The programme, themed "Waste Not, Save More", was open to all school levels nationwide (primary, secondary, and sixth-form centres). The programme aimed to provide students with opportunities to take on challenges by creating posters, videos, or innovations/prototypes related to financial literacy and zero-waste education. This year, an additional category, Best Male Advocate and Best Female Advocate of Sustainable Financial Management, was introduced to specifically recognise students that demonstrated outstanding effort, enthusiasm, and commitment in participating in the competition.
The ceremony continued with the presentation of prizes and certificates for the Recognise, Research, Establish, Apply, Lifelong (R.E.A.L.) Learning Competition Programme for 2024 by the Head of STEP Centre, Ministry of Education. This programme was open to secondary school and sixth-form centre students, aiming to encourage curiosity and creativity in tackling real-life challenges. The competition served as a platform to develop students' competencies in problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication, indirectly contributing to students' academic excellence, particularly in STEAM fields. Both programmes aim to further enhance and support STEAM skills among students in Brunei Darussalam.
The ceremony then proceeded with the presentation of certificates and plaques to schools that achieved the highest status under the Green School Status Programme by the Head of the STEP Centre, Ministry of Education. Since the programme began in 2023, a total of 47 schools nationwide have registered up to 2024 and were evaluated to attain their respective statuses under this programme. This programme is an initiative by the Ministry of Education to recognise the level of implementation of initiatives, programmes, and activities related to green sustainability, environmental conservation, and sustainability in schools. The evaluation of these schools was carried out based on the criteria outlined in the Guidebook for Initiating Green-Schools in Brunei Darussalam. A total of six (6) top-performing schools from each category of government primary and secondary schools, one (1) top-performing school from the Arabic school category, and one (1) top-performing school from the private school category were selected to receive this honour.

MAJLIS PENYAMPAIAN HADIAH PROGRAM-PROGRAM PUSAT STEP 2024

KATOK - Kementerian Pendidikan melalui Pusat Kerjasama Sains, Teknologi dan Alam Sekitar (Pusat STEP) telah mengadakan Majlis Penyampaian Hadiah Program-Program Pusat STEP bagi Tahun 2024, bertempat di Dewan Auditorium 1, Sekolah Ugama Arab Menengah Perempuan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha, Katok.
Majlis dimulakan dengan bacaan Surah Al-Fatihah dan seterusnya ucapan alu-aluan daripada pengerusi majlis, Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Suriani binti Haji Noor Hashim, Ketua Pusat STEP, Kementerian Pendidikan.
Yang Mulia Hajah Nurul Akmar binti Haji Mohd Jaafar, Ketua Pegawai Pemasaran, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), selaku penaja pertandingan dengan kerjasama Big BWN Project, hadir selaku Tetamu Kehormat dan seterusnya menyampaikan hadiah bagi Program Pertandingan Students in STEAM.
Program yang bertemakan “Waste Not, Save More" dibukakan kepada semua peringkat sekolah di seluruh negara (rendah, menengah dan pusat tingkatan enam). Antara tujuan program ini adalah untuk memberikan peluang kepada para pelajar bagi menyertai cabaran dengan menghasilkan poster, video, atau inovasi/prototaip yang berkaitan dengan literasi kewangan dan pendidikan sifar sisa (zero-waste education). Pada tahun ini, satu kategori tambahan, iaitu Best Male Advocator dan Best Female Advocator of Sustainable Financial Management telah diperkenalkan untuk memberikan pengiktirafan khusus kepada pelajar secara individu yang telah menunjukkan usaha, semangat, dan komitmen tinggi dalam menyertai pertandingan tersebut.
Majlis diteruskan dengan penyampaian hadiah dan sijil bagi Program Pertandingan “Recognise, Research, Establish, Apply, Lifelong (R.E.A.L) Learning" bagi tahun 2024 oleh Ketua Pusat STEP, Kementerian Pendidikan. Program ini dibukakan kepada pelajar-pelajar peringkat menengah dan pusat-pusat tingkatan enam, yang bertujuan untuk mendorong pelajar agar lebih bersikap ingin tahu dan kreatif dalam menghadapi cabaran kehidupan sebenar (real life problem). Pertandingan tersebut juga berfungsi sebagai platform untuk membina kompetensi pelajar dalam penyelesaian masalah (problem solving), pemikiran kritis (critical thinking), kreativiti (creativity), kerjasama (collaboration), dan komunikasi (communication), yang secara tidak langsung membantu dalam pencapaian kejayaan cemerlang pelajar khususnya dalam bidang STEAM. Kedua-dua program ini adalah bertujuan untuk meningkatkan lagi dan menyokong kemahiran-kemahiran STEAM bagi pelajar-pelajar di Negara Brunei Darussalam.
Majlis diikuti dengan penyampaian sijil dan plak kepada sekolah-sekolah yang mencapai status tertinggi dalam Program “Green School Status" oleh Ketua Pusat STEP, Kementerian Pendidikan. Sejak program ini bermula pada tahun 2023, sebanyak 47 buah sekolah dari seluruh negara telah mendaftar hingga tahun 2024 dan dinilai untuk mendapatkan status masing-masing menerusi program berkenaan. Program ini merupakan inisiatif pengiktirafan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan untuk mengenal pasti tahap pelaksanaan inisiatif, program, dan aktiviti berkaitan kelestarian hijau, penjagaan alam sekitar, serta kemampanan di sekolah-sekolah. Penilaian sekolah-sekolah ini dilaksanakan berdasarkan kriteria yang ditetapkan dalam panduan "Guidebook for Initiating Green-Schools in Brunei Darussalam". Sebanyak enam (6) sekolah terbaik dari setiap kategori sekolah rendah dan menengah kerajaan, satu (1) sekolah terbaik dari kategori sekolah Arab, serta satu (1) sekolah terbaik dari kategori sekolah swasta telah dipilih untuk menerima penghormatan ini.
