FIVE STUDENTS SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE
2025 APEC YOUTH STEM CONFERENCE IN THE REPUBLIC KOREA

Berakas –The Ministry of Education through CentrE for the Development of Gifted and Talented Education (EDGE), Department of Special Education has coordinated the participation of five Year 13 students and a teacher to attend the 2025 APEC Youth STEM Conference, scheduled to take place on 6 to 9 August 2025 in Busan and Daejeon, Republic of Korea.

Present at the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell to the delegation was Yang Mulia Hajah Nor Amy Hamimah binti Haji Matamit, Acting Head of EDGE.

The five students were selected by the organisers through a thorough and competitive evaluation process, based on their active participation in The 16th APEC Cross Mentoring Research Activity (CMRA), which was conducted online starting in January 2025. They have been invited to attend the conference alongside 21 youth participants from 11 APEC economies.
The students representing Brunei Darussalam are Awang Mohamed Nabil bin Mohamed Hairol, from Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah; Dayang Lee Jing Jing from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan; Dayang Thian Siao Fen @ Samantha and Dayang Teo Kai Lun from Pusat Tingkatan Enam Tutong; and Dayang Nursyamimi binti Nur Azme from Pusat Tingkatan Enam Belait. The students will be accompanied by Cikgu Dayang Siti Akmar Addurunnafis binti Awang Taib from Pusat Tingkatan Enam Tutong, who will also be participating as both a delegate and chaperone.
With the theme 'Youth-led STEM Solutions: Strengthening Climate Resilience for a Prosperous and Connected APEC' the conference is a flagship initiative aimed at nurturing future STEM leaders and fostering cross-border collaboration among APEC youth.
During the conference, the student participants will present their research findings to regional experts, educators and their peers. Throughout the programme, participants will also engage in various activities including Youth Mentor Networking, Busan Cultural Experience and Daejeon Cultural Experience. In addition, participants will gain valuable insights to Korea's advanced science and technology landscape through site visits to Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI), Doosan Enerbility and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
Participating teachers will also have the opportunity to take part in various professional development activities, which includes Presentation of Best Practices by Member Economies, research presentation, panel discussion, Busan Cultural Experience, Daejeon Cultural Experience and a site visit to the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
The 2025 APEC Youth STEM Conference is organised by the APEC Mentoring Center for the Gifted in Science (AMGS) under the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), Republic of Korea as the host, and supported by the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government, Kyungnam University, Korea Foundation for Science and Creativity, National Research Foundation of Korea, Korea Science Academy of KAIST (KSA), and APEC.
Also present at the airport to send off the delegation were officers from the Ministry of Education's CentrE for the Development of Gifted and Talented Education (EDGE), Department of Special Education; representatives from the participating schools as well as parents and family members of the students.

BERAKAS - Kementerian Pendidikan melalui Pusat Perkembangan Pendidikan Cerdas Pintar dan Berbakat (EDGE), Jabatan Pendidikan Khas hari ini telah menyelaras penyertaan bagi lima orang pelajar Tahun 13 serta seorang guru bagi menghadiri 2025 APEC Youth STEM Conference yang akan berlangsung pada 6 hingga 9 Ogos 2025 di Korea Science Academy of KAIST (KSA), Busan dan Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Republik Korea.
Hadir di Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Brunei bagi mengucapkan selamat belayar kepada delegasi ialah Yang Mulia Hajah Nor Amy Hamimah binti Haji Matamit, Pemangku Ketua EDGE.
Lima orang pelajar berkenaan telah dipilih oleh pihak penganjur melalui proses penilaian yang teliti dan kompetitif, berdasarkan dari penyertaan mereka dalam The 16th APEC Cross Mentoring Research Activity (CMRA) yang telah dikendalikan secara dalam talian bermula Januari 2025. Para pelajar telah dijemput untuk menyertai persidangan tersebut bersama 21 peserta belia dari 11 ekonomi APEC.
Pelajar-pelajar yang mewakili Negara Brunei Darussalam ialah Awang Mohamed Nabil bin Mohamed Hairol dari Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah; Dayang Lee Jing Jing dari Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan; Dayang Thian Siao Fen @ Samantha dan Dayang Teo Kai Lun dari Pusat Tingkatan Enam Tutong; serta Dayang Nursyamimi binti Nur Azme dari Pusat Tingkatan Enam Belait. Para pelajar akan diiringi oleh Cikgu Dayang Siti Akmar Addurunnafis binti Awang Taib, dari Pusat Tingkatan Enam Tutong yang turut menyertai sebagai peserta dan chaperone.
Dengan tema 'Youth-led STEM Solutions: Strengthening Climate Resilience for a Prosperous and Connected APEC', persidangan ini merupakan inisiatif utama yang bertujuan untuk memupuk kepimpinan STEM masa hadapan dan menggalakkan kerjasama rentas sempadan dalam kalangan belia APEC.
Semasa persidangan, para pelajar peserta akan membentangkan hasil penyelidikan mereka kepada pakar serantau, pendidik dan rakan sebaya. Sepanjang program ini, mereka juga akan menyertai pelbagai aktiviti termasuk Youth Mentor Networking, Busan Cultural Experience dan Daejeon Cultural Experience. Selain itu, mereka akan mendapat pendedahan terhadap kemajuan sains dan teknologi di Korea melalui lawatan ke institusi seperti Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI), Doosan Enerbility, dan Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
Guru peserta juga akan berpeluang menyertai pelbagai aktiviti pembangunan profesional, termasuk pembentangan amalan terbaik oleh pakar ekonomi, pembentangan hasil penyelidikan, sesi panel, dan turut serta dalam lawatan ke Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
The 2025 APEC Youth STEM Conference adalah anjuran APEC Mentoring Center for the Gifted in Science (AMGS), Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), Republik Korea selaku Tuan Rumah serta disokong oleh Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government, Kyungnam University, Korea Foundation for Science and Creativity, National Research Foundation of Korea, Korea Science Academy of KAIST (KSA) dan APEC.
Turut hadir di lapangan terbang bagi mengucapkan selamat berlepas kepada delegasi tersebut ialah pegawai-pegawai dari Pusat Perkembangan Pendidikan Cerdas Pintar dan Berbakat (EDGE), Jabatan Pendidikan Khas, Kementerian Pendidikan; wakil-wakil dari sekolah yang terlibat; serta ibu bapa dan ahli keluarga pelajar.
