FIVE STUDENTS RECEIVED AWARDS AT THE
2025 APEC YOUTH STEM CONFERENCE IN REPUBLIC KOREA
A total of five students from Brunei Darussalam received awards at the 2025 APEC Youth STEM Conference held from 6 to 9 August 2025 at the Korea Science Academy of KAIST (KSA), Busan, and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Republic of Korea. They presented their research in groups of 2 to 3 students from other APEC economies, in front of the regional experts, educators, and peers.

Dayang Lee Jing Jing from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan, together with her group under the supervision of Dr. Jong Anh Chun from APEC Climate Centre, Republic of Korea, won the top award, the Award for Future STEM Leader, for their research titled Data-Driven Framework for Evaluating and Sustaining Mangrove Coastal Defense Systems.

Dayang Thian Siao Fen @ Samantha from Pusat Tingkatan Enam Tutong, together with her group supervised by Professor Safira Candra Asih from University of Indonesia, received the Award for APEC Innovation for their research on Natural Coagulants from Pitahaya and Plátano for Turbidity and Ionic Contaminant Reduction in Water Treatment.

Dayang Teo Kai Lun also from Pusat Tingkatan Enam Tutong, together with her group under the guidance of Professor Po-Tsang Lee from National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU), won the Award for APEC Connectivity with their study titled The Impact of Eco-Friendly Feed on Fish Digestive Efficiency and Physiological Metabolism.

Awang Mohamed Nabil bin Mohamed Hairol from Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, together with his team, also received the APEC Connectivity Award for their research project titled Fighting Natural Disasters - Improving and investigating the Effectiveness of Flood Early Warning Systems with AI and Reducing the Areas of Impact. Meanwhile, Dayang Nursyamimi binti Nur Azme from Pusat Tingkatan Enam Belait, along with her team, similarly earned the APEC Connectivity Award for their research project titled Mapping Heat-Sensitive Zooxanthellae to Predict Coral Bleaching Risk in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. The final two teams were mentored by Professor Neil Sahota from California University.

These five students were among 26 youth participants from 11 APEC economies selected by the organisers to attend this prestigious conference. The selection was based on a thorough and competitive evaluation process, following their active participation in The 16th APEC Cross Mentoring Research Activity (CMRA), which was conducted online since January 2025.
With the theme “Youth-led STEM Solutions: Strengthening Climate Resilience for a Prosperous and Connected APEC", the conference aimed to nurture future STEM leadership and promote cross-border collaboration among APEC youth.
The 2025 APEC Youth STEM Conference was organised by the APEC Mentoring Center for the Gifted in Science (AMGS) and the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), Republic of Korea, as the host, with support from the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government, Kyungnam University, Korea Foundation for Science and Creativity, National Research Foundation of Korea, Korea Science Academy of KAIST (KSA), and APEC.
The participation of the five students from Brunei was coordinated by the Centre for the Development of Gifted and Talented Education (EDGE), Department of Special Education, Ministry of Education.

LIMA PELAJAR MENERIMA ANUGERAH DI 2025 APEC YOUTH STEM CONFERENCE

Seramai lima orang pelajar dari Negara Brunei Darussalam telah menerima anugerah di 2025 APEC Youth STEM Conference yang berlangsung pada 6 hingga 9 Ogos 2025 di Korea Science Academy of KAIST (KSA), Busan dan Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Republik Korea. Kesemua pelajar membentangkan hasil penyelidikan secara berkumpulan yang terdiri daripada 2 hingga 3 pelajar dari ekonomi APEC lain, di hadapan pakar serantau, pendidik, dan rakan sebaya.

Kelima-lima pelajar adalah antara 26 peserta belia dari 11 ekonomi APEC yang terpilih oleh pihak penganjur untuk menghadiri persidangan berprestij ini. Pemilihan dibuat melalui proses penilaian yang teliti dan kompetitif berdasarkan penglibatan mereka dalam The 16th APEC Cross Mentoring Research Activity (CMRA) yang telah dijalankan secara dalam talian bermula Januari 2025.
Bertemakan “Youth-led STEM Solutions: Strengthening Climate Resilience for a Prosperous and Connected APEC", persidangan ini bertujuan untuk memupuk kepimpinan STEM masa hadapan dan menggalakkan kerjasama rentas sempadan dalam kalangan belia APEC.
The 2025 APEC Youth STEM Conference dianjurkan oleh APEC Mentoring Center for the Gifted in Science (AMGS), Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), Republik Korea selaku Tuan Rumah, dengan sokongan Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government, Kyungnam University, Korea Foundation for Science and Creativity, National Research Foundation of Korea, Korea Science Academy of KAIST (KSA) dan APEC.
Penyertaan lima orang pelajar berkenaan ke 2025 APEC Youth STEM Conference telah diselaraskan oleh Pusat Perkembangan Pendidikan Cerdas Pintar dan Berbakat (EDGE), Jabatan Pendidikan Khas, Kementerian Pendidikan.
