TEACHERS' DAY CONFERENCE IN CONJUNCTION WITH
THE 35TH BRUNEI DARUSSALAM TEACHERS' DAY CELEBRATION 2025

TUNGKU LINK – The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs through the Department of Educators Management in collaboration with the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education, Universiti Brunei Darussalam and Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College today held the Teachers' Day Conference in Conjunction with the 35th Brunei Darussalam Teachers' Day Celebration 2025 at the Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.


Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education, Brunei Darussalam.
Among the aims of the conference are to catalyse a quality and sustainable educational transformation by providing a dynamic platform for educators to share evidence-based insights and innovative pedagogical practices. The conference focuses its discussions on twenty-nine sub-themes categorised under three main pillars namely 'Empowering Students for the Future', 'Innovating the Education Ecosystem' and 'Human Resource Development'.
A total of 600 participants and guests attended the conference, comprising teachers from both government and private schools, as well as representatives from higher education institutions under the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.


The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa, followed by welcoming remarks delivered by Associate Professor Dr Muhamad Zahiri bin Awang Mat, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Science and Social Studies, Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) in his capacity as the Co-Chairperson of the conference.

The event continued with a keynote address titled 'Reimagining Education: Why Now is the Time?' delivered by Professor Pasi Sahlberg, Professor of Educational Leadership, Faculty of Education, University of Melbourne. Professor Sahlberg presented an argument on the need for change based on international data that illustrates the various systemic challenges identified in today's education systems. He also introduced the significant concept of the 'AI Paradox', highlighting the risk of 'educating second-class robots'. In this context, he emphasised the need to shift from the traditional approach of 'teaching as transmission' towards a more transformative educational model that fosters students' sense of belonging, curiosity, and creativity.


The morning session concluded with a Learning Circle with the keynote speaker, followed by a workshop in the afternoon titled 'The Playful Classroom: Fostering Creativity and Critical Thinking in the Digital Age' facilitated by Professor Pasi Sahlberg.
The second day of the conference will feature a keynote presentation titled 'Artificial Intelligence in Islamic Education / Malaysia Madani' by Professor Dato' Dr Mohamad Fauzan, Deputy Rector of the International Islamic University Malaysia, which will explore the integration of Artificial Intelligence in values-based Islamic education. The conference will be followed by a Learning Circle session, along with 70 parallel research paper presentations, 10 interactive workshops, and 10 digital poster (e-poster) exhibitions.
The outcomes of this year's conference are hoped to empower teachers as catalysts for change, in line with efforts towards values-based and human-centric educational transformation in Brunei Darussalam.

TUNGKU LINK – Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kementerian Hal Ehwal Ugama melalui Jabatan Pengurusan Pendidik dengan kerjasama Institut Pendidikan Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Universiti Brunei Darussalam dan Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan pada hari ini telah mengadakan Persidangan Hari Guru sempena Sambutan Hari Guru Negara Brunei Darussalam Ke-35, Tahun 2025 bertempat di Dewan Canselor, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
Hadir selaku Tetamu Kehormat ialah Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Menteri Pendidikan, Negara Brunei Darussalam.
Antara tujuan persidangan ini adalah bagi memacu transformasi pendidikan yang berkualiti dan lestari dengan menyediakan platform dinamik kepada para pendidik untuk berkongsi wawasan berasaskan bukti serta amalan pedagogi inovatif. Persidangan ini memfokuskan perbincangan kepada dua puluh sembilan sub-tema yang dikategorikan di bawah tiga teras utama iaitu 'Memperkasakan Pelajar untuk Masa Depan', 'Menginovasi Ekosistem Pendidikan' dan 'Pembangunan Sumber Manusia'.
Seramai 600 peserta dan tetamu menghadiri persidangan ini, yang terdiri daripada para pendidik dari semua sekolah kerajaan dan swasta, serta wakil institusi pengajian tinggi di bawah Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kementerian Hal Ehwal Ugama.
Majlis dimulakan dengan bacaan Surah Al-Fatihah dan Doa, diikuti dengan ucapan alu-aluan daripada Yang Mulia Professor Madya Dr Muhamad Zahiri bin Awang Mat, Dekan, Fakulti Pendidikan Sains dan Kemasyarakatan, Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan selaku Pengerusi Bersama persidangan tersebut.
Acara diteruskan dengan penyampaian ucaptama bertajuk 'Reimagining Education: Why Now is the Time?' oleh Professor Pasi Sahlberg, Profesor dalam Kepimpinan Pendidikan, Fakulti Pendidikan dari University of Melbourne. Profesor Sahlberg membentangkan hujah mengenai keperluan melaksanakan perubahan berasaskan data antarabangsa yang menggambarkan pelbagai cabaran sistematik yang dikenal pasti dalam sistem pendidikan masa kini. Beliau turut memperkenalkan konsep 'Paradoks AI' yang signifikan, menekankan risiko 'mendidik robot kelas kedua'. Dalam konteks ini, beliau mengetengahkan keperluan peralihan daripada pendekatan tradisional 'pengajaran sebagai transmisi' kepada model pendidikan yang lebih transformatif, sekali gus memupuk rasa kekitaan, rasa ingin tahu dan kreativiti dalam kalangan pelajar.
Sesi pagi diakhiri dengan sesi Learning Circle bersama Penyampai Ucaptama. Manakala sesi petang diteruskan dengan bengkel bertajuk 'The Playful Classroom: Fostering Creativity and Critical Thinking in the Digital Age' yang dikendalikan oleh Penyampai Ucaptama, Profesor Pasi Sahlberg.
Hari kedua persidangan akan diteruskan dengan penyampaian ucaptama bertajuk 'Artificial Intelligence in Islamic Education / Malaysia Madani' oleh Yang Mulia Professor Dato' Dr Mohamad Fauzan, Timbalan Rektor dari Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia yang akan meneroka integrasi Kecerdasan Buatan dalam pendidikan Islam berteraskan nilai. Persidangan akan disusuli dengan sesi Learning Circle, diikuti dengan 70 pembentangan kertas penyelidikan selari, 10 bengkel interaktif dan 10 pameran poster digital (e-poster).
Hasil persidangan tahun ini diharapkan dapat memperkasakan guru-guru sebagai pemangkin perubahan, selari dengan usaha ke arah transformasi pendidikan yang berteraskan nilai dan berpusatkan insan (human-centric) di Negara Brunei Darussalam.
