BRUNEIAN STUDENT WINS AWARD
AT THE 15TH ASEAN+3 STUDENT CAMP FOR THE GIFTED IN SCIENCE

SEOUL – A student from Brunei Darussalam has received an award at the 15th ASEAN+3 Student Camp for the Gifted in Science (ACGS) 2026, held from 4 to 10 January 2026 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The programme was organised by The ASEAN+3 Center for the Gifted in Science (ACGS) with support from the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korean Foundation for Science and Creativity (KOSAC).

Dayang 'Aliah Zahra binti Mohamed Fairuz, a Year 10 student under the Lower Secondary Scholarship Scheme to Jerudong International School (JIS), won the Exemplary Pre-Camp Activities Award for her outstanding commitment and performance in researching traditional food preservation methods titled “Sun, Salt, Shrimp: How Does Varying Salt Concentration Affect Microbial Growth and Water Activity (aw) in Dried Shrimp During Storage".

The programme, themed “Food for All: The Role and Responsibility of Science for a Sustainable Tomorrow", provided participants with exposure to a wide range of academic and collaborative activities, including expert lectures, scientific discussions, and cross-country group presentations involving students from ASEAN+3 countries.

Prior to attending the main programme, the students completed a series of pre-camp activities, which included independent tasks and structured academic preparation. Throughout this period, they received guidance and mentorship from experts from the Faculty of Science, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) to ensure readiness for the international event.

Overall, the ACGS programme aims to bring together gifted and talented students in Science and Technology, providing them with a platform to collaborate, exchange ideas, and showcase their abilities in a challenging and globally competitive environment.
A total of three students represented Brunei Darussalam, comprising Year 10 students from Jerudong International School Brunei (JIS), namely Dayang 'Aliah Zahrah binti Mohamed Fairuz and Dayang Nadia binti Ahmad Sukarni, as well as Dayang Hasya Fasiha binti Azrin from International School Brunei (ISB). The participation in 15th ASEAN+3 Student Camp for the Gifted in Science (ACGS) 2026 was coordinated by the Centre for the Development of Gifted and Talented Education (EDGE), Department of Special Education, Ministry of Education.

SEOUL – Seorang pelajar dari Negara Brunei Darussalam telah berjaya menerima anugerah di 15th ASEAN+3 Student Camp for the Gifted in Science (ACGS) 2026 yang berlangsung pada 4 hingga 10 Januari 2026 di Seoul, Republik Korea. Program ini dianjurkan oleh The ASEAN+3 Center for the Gifted in Science (ACGS) dengan sokongan Korean Ministry of Science and ICT serta Korean Foundation for Science and Creativity (KOSAC).
Dayang 'Aliah Zahra binti Mohamed Fairuz, pelajar Tahun 10 di bawah Skim Biasiswa Menengah Bawah ke Jerudong International School (JIS) telah memenangi Anugerah Teladan Aktiviti Pra-Perkhemahan atas komitmen dan pencapaian cemerlang beliau dalam penyelidikan kaedah pengawetan makanan tradisional termasuk prinsip saintifik yang berkaitan bertajuk “Sun, Salt, Shrimp: How Does Varying Salt Concentration Affect Microbial Growth and Water Activity (aw) in Udang Kering During Storage".
Program yang bertemakan “Food for All: The Role and Responsibility of Science for a Sustainable Tomorrow" ini memberi peluang kepada peserta untuk menyertai pelbagai aktiviti akademik berimpak tinggi, termasuk kuliah pakar, perbincangan saintifik, serta pembentangan berkumpulan secara silang negara bersama pelajar dari negara-negara ASEAN+3.
Sebelum menghadiri program utama, para pelajar telah menjalani aktiviti pra-program yang melibatkan tugasan kendiri dan persediaan akademik yang intensif. Sepanjang tempoh tersebut, mereka telah menerima bimbingan daripada pakar-pakar Fakulti Sains, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) sebagai persediaan menghadapi program antarabangsa berkenaan.
Secara keseluruhannya, program ACGS bertujuan untuk menghimpunkan pelajar cerdas pintar dan berbakat dalam bidang Sains dan Teknologi, serta menyediakan platform untuk mereka bekerjasama, bertukar idea dan mempamerkan keupayaan dalam persekitaran global yang mencabar dan kompetitif.
Seramai tiga orang pelajar telah mewakili Negara Brunei Darussalam, yang terdiri dari pelajar Tahun 10 dari Jerudong International School Brunei (JIS) iaitu Dayang 'Aliah Zahrah binti Mohamed Fairuz dan Dayang Nadia binti Ahmad Sukarni serta Dayang Hasya Fasiha binti Azrin dari International School Brunei (ISB). Penyertaan pelajar ke 15th ASEAN+3 Student Camp for the Gifted In Science (ACGS) 2026 ini telah diselaraskan oleh Pusat Perkembangan Pendidikan Cerdas Pintar dan Berbakat (EDGE), Jabatan Pendidikan Khas, Kementerian Pendidikan.
