NATIONAL LEVEL CHESS COMPETITION FOR COLLEGES AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS 2026

BERAKAS – The Ministry of Education through the Arts and Creativity Division, Co-Curricular Education Department, Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Brunei Chess Federation today held the 2026 Chess Competition for Secondary Schools and Colleges nationwide which took place at the Lifelong Learning Centre (L3C), Ministry of Education.
Present as the Guest of Honour at the ceremony to present the prizes to the winners was Yang Mulia Awang Julaihi bin Mohamad/Mohamat, Director of Co-Curricular Education, Ministry of Education.
The competition was participated by 22 teams, each comprising three students from 22 schools, including government and private secondary schools under the Ministry of Education, as well as schools under the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The winner for the competition was Sekolah Tinggi Arab Hassanal Bolkiah, and Sekolah Arab Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah as the runner-up followed by Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan. The Best Player award was won by Awang Khaizuran bin Rezuan from Sekolah Arab Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, while the second place was held by Awang Nathanael Lai Thein Tze from Sekolah Menengah Muda Hashim Tutong and the third place went to Awang Mohd. Faiz Mustaqim bin Azlan from Sekolah Menengah Masin.
Among the objectives of this competition is to increase students' interest in chess and hone their decision-making and strategy skills. In addition, this competition is expected to produce students who are critical and creative thinkers, uncover new talents to represent the school at a higher level, and strengthen friendships between students through healthy activities.

PERTANDINGAN PERMAINAN CATUR BAGI SEKOLAH-SEKOLAH MENENGAH DAN MAKTAB-MAKTAB SENEGARA TAHUN 2026

BERAKAS – Kementerian Pendidikan melalui Bahagian Kesenian dan Kreativiti, Jabatan Pendidikan Kokurikulum, Kementerian Pendidikan dengan kerjasama Persekutuan Catur Brunei pada hari ini telah mengadakan Pertandingan Permainan Catur Bagi Sekolah-Sekolah Menengah dan Maktab-Maktab Senegara Tahun 2026 yang berlangsung di Pusat Pembelajaran Sepanjang Hayat (L3C), Kementerian Pendidikan.
Hadir selaku Tetamu Kehormat majlis bagi menyempurnakan penyampaian hadiah kepada para pemenang ialah Yang Mulia Awang Julaihi bin Mohamad/Mohamat, Pengarah Pendidikan Kokurikulum, Kementerian Pendidikan.
Pertandingan ini telah disertai oleh 22 pasukan yang masing-masing dianggotai oleh tiga orang pelajar daripada 22 buah sekolah, terdiri daripada sekolah menengah kerajaan dan swasta di bawah kawalan Kementerian Pendidikan serta sekolah di bawah kawalan Kementerian Hal Ehwal Ugama.
Juara bagi pertandingan tersebut disandang oleh Sekolah Tinggi Arab Hassanal Bolkiah, manakala Naib Juara ialah pasukan dari Sekolah Arab Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah dan tempat ketiga ialah Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan. Pemain Terbaik dimenangi oleh Awang Khaizuran bin Rezuan dari Sekolah Tinggi Arab Hassanal Bolkiah, manakala tempat Kedua disandang oleh Awang Nathanael Lai Thein Tze dari Sekolah Menengah Muda Hashim Tutong dan tempat Ketiga jatuh kepada Awang Mohd. Faiz Mustaqim bin Azlan dari Sekolah Menengah Masin.
Antara objektif pertandingan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan minat pelajar terhadap permainan catur serta mengasah kemahiran membuat keputusan dan strategi. Di samping itu, pertandingan ini diharapkan dapat melahirkan pelajar yang berfikiran kritikal dan kreatif, mencungkil bakat-bakat baharu untuk mewakili sekolah ke peringkat yang lebih tinggi, serta mengeratkan hubungan silaturahim antara pelajar melalui aktiviti yang sihat.
