THE 11TH ASEAN PLUS THREE JUNIOR SCIENCE ODYSSEY (APTJSO-11),

REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES ON THE 5 TO 11 JULY 2026

BERAKAS – The Ministry of Education through the Centre for the Development of Gifted and Talented Education (EDGE), Department of Special Education has coordinated the participation of three students and one teacher in the 11th ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey (APTJSO-11). The prohramme is organised by The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Science High School System (DOST-PSHSS), Republic of the Philippines, in collaboration with the ASEAN+3 Center for the Gifted in Science (ACGS), and supported by the ASEAN Secretariat. The programme will be held from 5 to 11 July 2026 at The QuestPlus Hotel, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga, Republic of the Philippines.

Present at Brunei International Airport to bid farewell to the delegation was Yang Mulia Pengiran Omar bin Pengiran Haji Salleh, Head of Administration Division, Department of Special Education, Ministry of Education.

The three Year 9 students representing Brunei Darussalam are Awang Muhammad Musyrif Safwan@Omar Abdul Aziz bin Mohammad Mahyuddin and Dayang Iman Zahra binti Haji Ady Syarmin from International School Brunei (ISB) and Dayang Nurul Lily Jasmine binti Mohamad Noh from Jerudong International School (JIS). The delegation is accompanied by Cikgu Dayang Hajah Noor Linda binti Haji Nasir from Pusat Tingkatan Enam Sengkurong, who is participating as the teacher-participant, supervising teacher and mentor.

The annual programme, guided by this year's theme 'Climate Action and Responsible e-nnovation for Sustainability (ASEAN+3 CAReS)', is specially designed for gifted students aged 13 to 15 from ASEAN+3 countries who demonstrate strong potential in science and technology. In line with these objectives, the programme also aims to develop scientific thinking through hands-on learning, encourage collaboration across cultures, expose students to real-world scientific challenges, inspire them to pursue future careers in science, research, and innovation.

A series of activities has been planned for the students prior to and throughout their participation in APTJSO-11. As part of the pre-programme preparations, each participating team was required to complete a Pre-Odyssey assignment by producing a three- to five-minute video highlighting a local issue related to climate change, sustainability, or resilience to natural disaster which will be assessed during APTJSO-11.

 

Throughout the programme, the students will participate in a various activity, including listening to the keynote address during the Opening Ceremony and, Meet the Scientists and Panel Discussion with Scientists sessions, laboratory assessments, field studies, lectures related to the programme theme, pitching sessions, as well as cultural exchange activities and the Food Festival.

 

In addition to student participation, APTJSO-11 also provides a platform for educators to exchange best practices, share professional experiences, and showcase innovative initiatives in the areas of climate action, resilience, sustainability, and science education. Teachers participating in the programme will also take part in various activities, including Meet the Scientists and Panel Discussion with Scientists sessions, Best Practices presentations, Focus Group Discussions, field studies, workshops, and educational tours. These activities aim to promote collaboration, exchange of ideas and international learning among educators from participating countries.

 

During the Best Practices presentation session, Cikgu Hajah Noor Linda binti Haji Nasir will deliver a presentation entitled “The Pre-Lesson Struggle: The Secret to Developing Cognitively Flexible Biology Students".

 

Also in attendance at the airport were officials from EDGE, parents, and family members of the students.

​TIGA PELAJAR DAN SEORANG GURU MEWAKILI NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM KE

THE 11TH ASEAN PLUS THREE JUNIOR SCIENCE ODYSSEY (APTJSO-11) DI REPUBLIK FILIPINA

PADA 5 HINGGA 11 JULAI 2026

BERAKAS Kementerian Pendidikan melalui Pusat Perkembangan Pendidikan Cerdas Pintar dan Berbakat (EDGE), Jabatan Pendidikan Khas telah menyelaras penyertaan tiga orang pelajar dan seorang guru dalam The 11th ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey (APTJSO-11). Program yang dianjurkan oleh The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Science High School System (DOST-PSHSS), Republik Filipina, dengan kerjasama ASEAN+3 Center for the Gifted in Science (ACGS) dan disokong oleh ASEAN Secretariat. Program ini akan diadakan pada 5 hingga 11 Julai 2026 bertempat di The QuestPlus Hotel, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga, Republik Filipina.

 

Hadir di Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Brunei bagi mengucapkan selamat belayar ialah Yang Mulia Pengiran Omar bin Pengiran Haji Salleh, Ketua Bahagian Pentadbiran, Jabatan Pendidikan Khas, Kementerian Pendidikan.

 

Tiga pelajar yang mewakili Negara Brunei Darussalam terdiri daripada pelajar Tahun 9, iaitu Awang Muhammad Musyrif Safwan@Omar Abdul Aziz bin Mohammad Mahyuddin dan Dayang Iman Zahra binti Haji Ady Syarmin dari International School Brunei (ISB), serta Dayang Nurul Lily Jasmine binti Mohamad Noh dari Jerudong International School Brunei (JIS).  Delegasi berkenaan turut disertai oleh Yang Mulia Cikgu Dayang Hajah Noor Linda binti Haji Nasir dari Pusat Tingkatan Enam Sengkurong, selaku peserta guru, guru pengawas dan mentor.

 

Program yang bertemakan 'Climate Action and Responsible e-nnovation for Sustainability (ASEAN+3 CAReS)' merupakan program tahunan yang dirangka khusus untuk pelajar-pelajar cerdas pintar berumur 13 hingga 15 dari negara-negara ASEAN+3 yang menunjukkan potensi yang tinggi dalam bidang sains dan teknologi.  Selaras dengan matlamat tersebut, program ini turut bertujuan untuk membangunkan pemikiran saintifik melalui pembelajaran langsung, menggalakkan kerjasama merentas budaya, mendedahkan pelajar kepada cabaran saintifik dunia sebenar serta memberi inspirasi kepada mereka untuk menceburi kerjaya masa depan dalam bidang sains, penyelidikan dan inovasi.

 

Pelbagai aktiviti telah disusun untuk para pelajar sebelum dan sepanjang penyertaan mereka dalam APTJSO-11. Sebagai persediaan awal, setiap pasukan telah diberikan tugasan Pra-Odyssey untuk menghasilkan video berdurasi antara tiga hingga lima minit yang mengetengahkan isu tempatan berkaitan perubahan iklim, kelestarian, atau daya tahan terhadap bencana alam yang akan dinilai semasa APTJSO-11.

 

Sepanjang program APTJSO-11, para pelajar akan mengikuti pelbagai aktiviti, termasuk mendengar ucaptama semasa Majlis Pembukaan, menghadiri sesi pertemuan dan perbincangan panel bersama saintis, penilaian makmal (lab assessment), menyertai kajian lapangan (field study), menghadiri kuliah berkaitan tema program serta sesi pitching. Selain itu, para pelajar juga akan mengambil bahagian dalam aktiviti pertukaran budaya dan Festival Makanan (Food Festival).

 

Selain penyertaan pelajar, APTJSO-11 turut menyediakan platform kepada para pendidik untuk berkongsi amalan terbaik, pengalaman profesional serta mengetengahkan inisiatif inovatif dalam bidang tindakan iklim, daya tahan, kelestarian dan pendidikan sains. Para guru yang menyertai program ini juga akan mengikuti pelbagai aktiviti, termasuk sesi Meet the Scientists dan Panel Discussion with Scientists, pembentangan Best Practices, Focus Group Discussion, kajian lapangan, bengkel serta lawatan pendidikan. Aktiviti-aktiviti ini bertujuan untuk menggalakkan kerjasama, pertukaran idea dan pembelajaran di peringkat antarabangsa dalam kalangan para pendidik dari negara-negara peserta.

 

Dalam sesi pembentangan amalan terbaik, Yang Mulia Cikgu Dayang Hajah Noor Linda akan menyampaikan pembentangan bertajuk “The Pre-Lesson Struggle: The Secret to Developing Cognitively Flexible Biology Students".

 

Turut hadir ialah pegawai-pegawai dari Pusat EDGE, dan para ibu bapa serta ahli keluarga pelajar.
