AT THE 11TH ASEAN PLUS THREE JUNIOR SCIENCE ODYSSEY (APTJSO-11)

REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES – Three students from Brunei Darussalam have received awards at the 11th ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey (APTJSO-11), held from 5 to 11 July 2026 at The QuestPlus Hotel, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga, Republic of the Philippines.

The programme was organised by The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Science High School System (DOST-PSHSS), Republic of the Philippines, in collaboration with the ASEAN+3 Center for the Gifted in Science (ACGS), and supported by the ASEAN Secretariat.

Centred around the theme 'Climate Action and Responsible e-nnovation for Sustainability (ASEAN+3 CAReS)', the program required participants to be divided into cross-national teams comprising students from various ASEAN+3 countries to undertake collaborative tasks and challenges.

Through their respective team collaborations, Awang Muhammad Musyrif Safwan @ Omar Abdul Aziz bin Mohammad Mahyuddin, a Year 9 student under the Skim Biasiswa Menengah at International School Brunei (ISB), successfully won a Silver Award and the 'Best in Wings of Change Challenge' award.

 

Dayang Iman Zahra binti Haji Ady Syarmin, another Year 9 student under the Skim Biasiswa Menengah at ISB, received a Silver Award and the 'Strongest Advocacy for Climate Action' award. Meanwhile, Dayang Nurul Lily Jasmine binti Mohamad Noh, a Year 9 student under the Skim Biasiswa Menengah at Jerudong International School (JIS), received a Bronze Award.

 

In addition to the team achievements, Awang Muhammad Musyrif Safwan and Dayang Iman Zahra were also individual recipients of the 'Early Bird Award'.

 

The annual program provided students with opportunities to participate in various academic and interactive activities, including panel discussions with scientists, laboratory assessments, field studies, themed lectures, and cross-national team pitching sessions. Aside from the scientific aspects, participants also engaged in cultural exchanges during the Food Festival.

 

Prior to their departure, the students underwent intensive preparation during Pre-Odyssey activities guided by Cikgu Dayang Hajah Noor Linda binti Haji Nasir from Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre, who also served as the supervising teacher for the Brunei Darussalam delegation.

Overall, the APTJSO program aims to develop scientific thinking through hands-on learning, foster cross-cultural collaboration, and expose students aged 13 to 15 from the ASEAN+3 region to real-world scientific challenges to inspire them to pursue future careers in science, research, and innovation.

 

 The delegation's participation in the program was coordinated by the Centre for the Development of Gifted and Talented Education (EDGE), Special Education Department, Ministry of Education., Ministry of Education.

PELAJAR BRUNEI MEMENANGI ANUGERAH

 DI THE 11TH ASEAN PLUS THREE JUNIOR SCIENCE ODYSSEY (APTJSO-11)

REPUBLIK FILIPINA – Tiga pelajar dari Negara Brunei Darussalam telah berjaya menerima anugerah dalam Program The 11th ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey (APTJSO-11) yang berlangsung dari 5 hingga 11 Julai 2026 bertempat di The QuestPlus Hotel, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga, Republik Filipina. 

 

Program berkenaan dianjurkan oleh The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Science High School System (DOST-PSHSS), Republik Filipina, dengan kerjasama ASEAN+3 Center for the Gifted in Science (ACGS) dan disokong oleh ASEAN Secretariat.

 

Berteraskan tema 'Climate Action and Responsible e-nnovation for Sustainability (ASEAN+3 CAReS)' itu, program tersebut memerlukan para peserta dibahagikan kepada kumpulan yang terdiri daripada pelajar dari pelbagai negara ASEAN+3 bagi menyelesaikan tugasan dan cabaran secara kolaboratif.

 

Melalui kerjasama berpasukan tersebut, Awang Muhammad Musyrif Safwan@Omar Abdul Aziz bin Mohammad Mahyuddin, pelajar Tahun 9 di bawah Skim Biasiswa Menengah ke International School Brunei (ISB) telah Berjaya meraih Anugerah Perak (Silver Award) dan Anugerah Best in Wings of Change Challenge.

 

Turut melakar kejayaan ialah Dayang Iman Zahra binti Haji Ady Syarmin, juga pelajar Tahun 9 di bawah Skim Biasiswa Menengah ke International School Brunei (ISB) yang memenangi Anugerah Perak (Silver Award) dan Strongest Advocacy for Climate Action. Manakala, Dayang Nurul Lily Jasmine binti Mohamad Noh, pelajar Tahun 9 di bawah Skim Biasiswa Menengah ke Jerudong International School (JIS) turut berjaya merangkul Anugerah Gangsa (Bronze Award).

 

Selain kejayaan berkumpulan, Awang Muhammad Musyrif Safwan@Omar Abdul Aziz dan Dayang Iman Zahra juga memenangi Early Bird Award bagi kategori individu.

 

Program tahunan ini memberikan peluang kepada para pelajar untuk menyertai pelbagai aktiviti akademik dan interaktif, termasuk sesi panel bersama saintis, penilaian makmal (lab assessment), kajian lapangan (field study), menghadiri kuliah berkaitan tema program, serta sesi pitching berkumpulan silang negara. Selain aktiviti sains, para peserta juga berpeluang bertukar-tukar kebudayaan melalui Festival Makanan (Food Festival).

 

Sebagai persediaan sebelum bertolak, para pelajar telah menjalani aktiviti Pra-Odyssey yang dibimbing oleh Yang Mulia Cikgu Dayang Hajah Noor Linda binti Haji Nasir dari Pusat Tingkatan Enam Sengkurong, yang juga bertindak selaku Guru Pengawas bagi delegasi negara.

 

Secara keseluruhan, program APTJSO ini bertujuan untuk membangunkan pemikiran saintifik melalui pembelajaran secara praktikal, menggalakkan kerjasama merentas budaya, serta mendedahkan pelajar berumur 13 hingga 15 tahun dari rantau ASEAN+3 kepada cabaran saintifik dunia sebenar demi menyuntik inspirasi bagi menceburi kerjaya dalam bidang sains, penyelidikan dan inovasi pada masa hadapan.

 

Penyertaan delegasi negara ke program berkenaan telah diselaraskan oleh Pusat Perkembangan Pendidikan Cerdas Pintar dan Berbakat (EDGE), Jabatan Pendidikan Khas, Kementerian Pendidikan.​
