Friday, 1st October 2021 – The Honourable Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education attended the 5th ASEAN Plus Three Education Ministers Meeting (5th APT EMM) and the 5th East Asia Summit Education Ministers Meeting (5th EAS EMM) virtually today. The online conferences were hosted by the Department of Education of the Philippines in their capacity as Chair of the Meeting for this year. The meeting carried the theme Transforming Education the ASEAN Way: Forging Partnerships in the Age of Global Disruptions.

The 5th APT EMM and 5th EAS EMM were officiated by His Excellency Rodrigo Roa Duterte, President of the Republic of the Philippines. In his speech, he highlighted that these important meetings demonstrate ASEAN’s determination and ability to adapt and innovate in times of crisis where regional cooperation and partnership are extremely important.


During the 5th ASEAN Plus Three Education Ministers Meeting, the Minister of Education of Brunei Darussalam highlighted that like many around the world, Brunei is aspiring towards effective remedial learning and comprehensive services to help recover learning losses and improve overall welfare of learners. In view of this, the Minister of Education stated that the Ministry is embarking on a long-term strategy, with the “Ministry of Education Digital Transformation Plan”, in making digital learning a new norm in our education system. In support of this, three main areas are underlined which are; Education Technology, Management Technology, as well as Enabling Policies and Infrastructure. In addition, the Honourable Minister also stated that the Ministry of Education have also been continuously introducing a number of professional development initiatives to enhance the digital readiness of our teachers, schools and system leaders.


Also in attendance during the online meetings were Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) and officials from the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam.


Prior to the Ministerial Session, there was a convening of a Senior Officials Level session of the meeting, held virtually on Wednesday, 29th September 2021 and Thursday, 30th September 2021. Representing Brunei Darussalam at the meeting was Yang Mulia Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Ministry of Education.


During the meeting, senior officials were updated on the development of initiatives, work plan and activities under the education sector of ASEAN. The session also saw sharing of best practices and recovery plans of respective ASEAN Member States in education as the response towards the impact of COVID-19.

Jumaat, 1 Oktober 2021 – Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Menteri Pendidikan telah menghadiri Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pendidikan ASEAN Plus Three kali ke-5 (5th APT EMM) dan Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pendidikan East Asia Summit Kali ke-5 (5th EAS EMM) secara maya yang dianjurkan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan Republik Filipina dalam kapasitinya selaku pengerusi mesyuarat-mesyuarat tersebut pada tahun ini, yang bertemakan Transforming Education The ASEAN Way: Forging Partnerships in the Age of Global Disruptions.


Mesyuarat 5th APT EMM dan mesyuarat 5th EAS EMM telah dirasmikan oleh Tuan Yang Terutama Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Presiden Republik Filipina. Dalam ucapannya, Tuan Yang Terutama menekankan bahawa mesyuarat-mesyuarat penting ini menunjukkan tekad dan kemampuan ASEAN untuk menyesuaikan diri dan berinovasi semasa menghadapi krisis di mana kerjasama dan perkongsian serantau sangat penting.


Semasa mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pendidikan ASEAN Plus Three kali ke-5, Yang Berhormat Menteri Pendidikan menyatakan bahawa pada masa ini seluruh dunia berhasrat untuk pembelajaran pemulihan yang berkesan dan perkhidmatan yang komprehensif untuk membantu memulihkan kerugian pembelajaran dan meningkatkan kesejahteraan pelajar secara keseluruhan. Ke arah itu, Kementerian Pendidikan memulai strategi jangka panjang, dengan "Ministry of Education Digital Transformation Plan", dalam menjadikan pembelajaran digital sebagai norma baru dalam sistem pendidikan di Brunei Darussalam. Bagi menyokong strategi ini, tiga bidang utama diberikan keutamaan iaitu; Teknologi Pendidikan, Teknologi Pengurusan, serta Enabling Policies and Infrastructure. Selain itu, Yang Berhormat Menteri Pendidikan juga mengongsikan bahawa Kementerian Pendidikan sentiasa memperkenalkan inisiatif-inisiatif perkembangan profesional untuk meningkatkan kesediaan digital guru dan sekolah serta pemimpin sistem.


Turut hadir semasa mesyuarat tersebut ialah Yang Mulia Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Setiausaha Tetap (Pendidikan Teras) dan pegawai-pegawai dari Kementerian Pendidikan, Brunei Darussalam.


Sebelum mesyuarat Menteri berkenaan, satu sesi mesyuarat bagi pegawai-pegawai kanan telah diadakan pada hari Rabu, 29 September 2021 dan Khamis, 30 September 2021 secara maya. Hadir semasa sesi mesyuarat tersebut ialah Yang Mulia Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Setiausaha Tetap (Pendidikan Teras), Kementerian Pendidikan Negara Brunei Darussalam.


Semasa sesi berkenaan, pegawai-pegawai kanan telah dimaklumkan mengenai dengan pelaksanaan inisiatif-inisiatif pendidikan ASEAN, pelan kerja ASEAN dan aktiviti-aktiviti dibawa sektor pendidikan ASEAN. Mesyuarat turut mendengarkan perkongsian amalan- amalan baik serta pelan pemulihan negara-negara ahli ASEAN dalam bidang pendidikan sebagai respon terhadap impak dari COVID-19.
