Pencak silat athlete Anisah Najihah Abdullah won Brunei their only gold medal in the tournament in the women’s ‘seni tunggal’ category.

“Even though we didn’t achieve our target of three gold medals, we have achieved the target of winning the country’s first ever gold medal in the tournament,” said the country chef de mission Pg Rosli Pg Hj Halus in an interview with The Brunei Times during the Games closing ceremony at the Rizqun Hotel in Gadong last night.

“I am very proud of our athletes and I know that everyone gave their best to represent the country at this tournament.

“I hope that this result can be a benchmark for us to perform better in the next ASG to be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand next year,” he added.

Indonesia dominated this year’s Games with 25 gold, 24 silver and 10 bronze medals. Malaysia were second with 20 gold, 14 silver and 22 bronze medals followed by Thailand with 13 gold, 31 silver and 26 bronze medals.
