GADONG – The Ministry of Education today held a webinar titled "Sharing Practices and Experiences in Early Childhood Care and Education in Brunei Darussalam" at the SEAMEO VOCTECH Regional Centre.
The webinar was officiated by the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam.
The webinar commenced with a welcoming speech from Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Marina Chek binti Bujang, Director of Schools, Ministry of Education, as the Co-Chair of the webinar, followed by a speech from the Guest of Honour.
The main objective of this webinar is to discuss policies and practices in early childhood education in Brunei Darussalam, as well as identify challenges and opportunities in its implementation. Additionally, the webinar served as a platform to share best practices and innovative approaches in early childhood education while strengthening collaboration among educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders in the field of early childhood education.
This hybrid webinar was attended physically by selected participants, comprising local experts and stakeholders in early childhood education, while participants from the other eleven (11) ASEAN countries joined virtually. Among the participants were representatives from the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Early Childhood Care Education and Parenting (SEAMEO CECCEP); the Southeast Asian Minister of Education Organization Regional Centre for Special Educational Needs (SEAMEO SEN); the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF); the Asia-Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood (ARNEC); as well as local representatives comprising government officials involved in early childhood education, including school leaders from government and private primary schools and operators of daycare centers.
The morning session of the webinar started with four presentations delivered by keynote speakers: Yang Mulia Dr. Nordiana binti Haji Zakir, Assistant Professor at Universiti Brunei Darussalam; Yang Mulia Siti Zaharah binti Haji Abdul Razak, Assistant Director of the Family, Women, and Children Section, Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports; Yang Mulia Dr. Eddy Fazlin bin Haji Amdan, Acting Director of Special Education, Ministry of Education; and Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah Norol Ehsan binti Haji Abdul Hamid, Head of School Health Services, Health Promotion Centre, Ministry of Health.
The afternoon session continued with parallel sessions presented by officers from the Department of Schools, Curriculum Development Department, Special Education Department, Ministry of Education, and from the Health Promotion Centre, Ministry of Health. This afternoon session was attended by preschool teachers, Special Educational Needs (SEN) teachers from preschool in government schools, as well as teachers from private kindergartens.
As a support for Brunei Darussalam's commitment to the SEAMEO 2021-2030 Strategic Plan among ASEAN countries in strengthening Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), the Ministry of Education of Brunei Darussalam is dedicated to sharing views and experiences on early childhood care and education in the local context. This initiative reflects Brunei Darussalam's dedication to sharing expertise and fostering regional cooperation in advancing early childhood care and education practices. This inaugural webinar was organized by the Early Childhood Education Unit, Department of Schools, in collaboration with Special Education Department.

GADONG – Kementerian Pendidikan pada hari ini telah mengadakan Webinar yang bertajuk “Sharing Practices and Experiences in Early Childhood Care and Education in Brunei Darussalam” bertempat di Pusat Serantau SEAMEO VOCTECH.
Webinar tersebut dirasmikan oleh Tetamu Kehormat majlis, Yang Mulia Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Setiausaha Tetap (Pendidikan Teras), Kementerian Pendidikan, Negara Brunei Darussalam.
Webinar dimulakan dengan ucapan alu-aluan daripada Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Marina Chek binti Bujang, Pengarah Sekolah-Sekolah, Kementerian Pendidikan selaku Pengerusi Bersama Webinar dan seterusnya ucapan daripada Tetamu Kehormat Majlis.
Tujuan utama webinar ini adalah untuk membincangkan dasar dan amalan pendidikan awal kanak-kanak di Negara Brunei Darussalam serta mengenal pasti cabaran dan peluang yang ada dalam pelaksanaannya. Webinar ini juga berfungsi sebagai platform untuk berkongsi amalan terbaik dan pendekatan inovatif dalam pendidikan awal kanak-kanak, di samping memperkukuh kerjasama antara pendidik, pembuat dasar serta pihak berkepentingan lain dalam bidang pendidikan awal kanak-kanak.
Webinar yang dilaksanakan secara ‘hybrid’ ini dihadiri secara fizikal oleh peserta-peserta terpilih yang terdiri daripada pakar dan pihak tempatan yang berkepentingan dalam pendidikan awal kanak-kanak, sementara peserta dari sebelas (11) Negara ASEAN yang lain mengikutinya secara maya. Antara yang turut serta adalah wakil-wakil dari ‘Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Early Childhood Care Education and Parenting’ (SEAMEO CECCEP); ‘Southeast Asian Minister of Education Organization Regional Centre for Special Educational Needs’ (SEAMEO SEN); ‘United Nations Children’s Fund’ (UNICEF); ‘Asia-Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood’ (ARNEC) serta wakil tempatan yang terdiri daripada pegawai-pegawai kerajaan yang berkait dengan pendidikan awal kanak-kanak termasuk pemimpin-pemimpin sekolah dari sekolah rendah kerajaan dan swasta serta pengasas-pengasas pusat penjagaan anak damit.
Sesi pagi webinar dimulakan dengan empat pembentangan yang disampaikan oleh penceramah-penceramah utama iaitu Yang Mulia Dr. Nordiana binti Haji Zakir, Penolong Profesor di Universiti Brunei Darussalam; Yang Mulia Siti Zaharah binti Haji Abdul Razak, Penolong Pengarah Bahagian Keluarga, Wanita, dan Kanak-Kanak, Kementerian Kebudayaan, Belia dan Sukan; Yang Mulia Dr. Eddy Fazlin bin Haji Amdan, Pemangku Pengarah Pendidikan Khas, Kementerian Pendidikan; dan Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah Norol Ehsan binti Haji Abdul Hamid, Ketua Perkhidmatan Kesihatan Sekolah, Pusat Promosi Kesihatan, Kementerian Kesihatan.
Manakala sesi petang diteruskan dengan sesi selari (parallel sessions) yang disampaikan oleh pembentang yang terdiri daripada pegawai-pegawai dari Jabatan Sekolah-Sekolah, Jabatan Perkembangan Kurikulum dan Jabatan Pendidikan Khas, Kementerian Pendidikan serta daripada Pusat Promosi Kesihatan, Kementerian Kesihatan. Sesi petang ini dihadiri oleh guru-guru prasekolah dan guru-guru Special Educational Needs (SEN) yang mengajar prasekolah di sekolah-sekolah kerajaan serta guru-guru yang mengajar di tadika swasta.
Sebagai sokongan Negara Brunei Darussalam terhadap Pelan Strategik SEAMEO 2021-2030 di kalangan negara-negara ASEAN dalam memperkukuh Penjagaan dan Pendidikan Awal Kanak-Kanak (ECCE), Kementerian Pendidikan Negara Brunei Darussalam komited untuk berkongsi pandangan dan pengalaman mengenai penjagaan serta pendidikan awal kanak-kanak dalam konteks tempatan. Inisiatif ini mencerminkan dedikasi Negara Brunei Darussalam dalam berkongsi kepakaran serta memupuk kerjasama serantau dalam memajukan amalan penjagaan dan pendidikan awal kanak-kanak. Webinar yang julung kali diadakan ini merupakan anjuran Kementerian Pendidikan Negara Brunei Darusalam melalui Unit Pendidikan Awal Kanak-Kanak, Jabatan Sekolah-Sekolah dengan kerjasama Jabatan Pendidikan Khas.
