PILOT PROJECT “CODING WITH SMART DEVICES FOR GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS"

7 February 2024 - The Ministry of Education through the Department of Curriculum Development in collaboration with the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) today organised a prize presentation ceremony for the final competition of the pilot project “Coding with Smart Devices for Government Schools”, which was held at Dewan Puteri, Sekolah Tinggi Peremuan Raja Isteri (STPRI).

Present as the guest of honour at the event was Yang Mulia Awang Haji Md Salleh bin Haji Othman, Member of the Legislative Council and Penghulu Mukim Bukit Sawat. In attendance at the ceremony were Yang Mulia Ir. Awang Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar, Chief Executive of AITI and Yang Mulia Ali Hamdani bin Haji Muhammad Diah, Director of the Curriculum Development Department, Ministry of Education (MOE), senior officers as well as school leaders.

The ceremony began with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and a prayer, followed by a welcoming remark by the Chief Executive of AITI. The event then continued with a presentation by Yang Mulia Wong Teck Sion, Director of FutureChamp in his capacity as the Project Facilitator, to share the outcome of the pilot project. The winners of the ‘Coding with Smart Devices for Government Schools’ competition were presented with their awards, and participants received certificates of appreciation at the end of the event.

The winners of the competition are as follows:

Ring:bit Category – Primary School Level

Winner: Team Kembayau (Rimba III Primary School)

First Runner-up: Team NetZen (Katok A Primary School)

Second Runner-up: Microkids (Mabohai Primary School)


Maqueen Category – Secondary School Level

Winner: Team Delite (Menglait Secondary School, Gadong)

First Runner-up: Team Robotech (Menglait Secondary School, Gadong)

Second Runner-up: Team Ranch (Tạnjong Maya Secondary School, Tutong)

After the prize presentation ceremony, the guest of honour was invited to view the demonstrations of smart devices created by the winners and participants of the competition.

The “Coding with Smart Devices” project is an initiative by MOE and AITI, to improve coding skills and computational thinking through learning using smart devices, specifically Bee-Bot and Micro:bit. The project started in July 2023, involving 35 teachers and 195 students from Year 4, 5, 7 and 8 from four selected Government primary schools and four selected Government secondary schools in Brunei Darussalam.


At the end of this pilot project, competitions were organized to evaluate the level of understanding of the students by incorporating the use of smart devices through learning. Twelve (12) groups from the selected Government primary schools and twelve (12) groups from the selected Government secondary schools competed in the final competition this morning.

It is intended that this pilot project enhance students’ knowledge, skills and interest in the field of ICT, particularly coding skills. AITI will continue to play a supporting role in the development of the nation, in the ICT sector through the development of capacity building among the community and businesses, specifically in the digital skills and knowledge to ensure Brunei will remain competitive and can make meaningful contribution in the digital economy within the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

MAJLIS PENYAMPAIAN HADIAH PERTANDINGAN AKHIR BAGI
PROJEK RINTIS
“CODING WITH SMART DEVICES FOR GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS”

7 Februari 2024 - Kementerian Pendidikan melalui Jabatan Perkembangan Kurikulum dengan kerjasama Pihak Berkuasa Industri Teknologi Info-komunikasi Negara Brunei Darussalam (AITI) hari ini telah mengadakan Majlis Penyampaian Hadiah bagi Pertandingan Akhir Projek Rintis “Coding with Smart Devices for Government Schools” bertempat di Dewan Puteri, Sekolah Tinggi Perempuan Raja Isteri (STPRI).


Hadir selaku tetamu kehormat di majlis tersebut ialah Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Md Salleh bin Haji Othman, Ahli Majlis Mesyuarat Negara dan Penghulu Mukim Bukit Sawat. Turut hadir di majlis tersebut ialah Yang Mulia Ir. Awang Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar, Ketua Eksekutif, AITI; Yang Mulia Awang Ali Hamdani bin Haji Muhammad Diah, Pengarah Perkembangan Kurikulum, Kementerian Pendidikan; pegawai-pegawai kanan serta pemimpin-pemimpin sekolah.


Majlis dimulakan dengan bacaan Surah Al-Fatihah dan doa, diikuti dengan ucapan alu-aluan oleh Ketua Eksekutif AITI. Majlis diteruskan dengan perkongsian mengenai dengan hasil projek rintis yang disampaikan oleh Yang Mulia Wong Teck Sion, Pengarah Syarikat FutureChamp selaku Fasilitator Projek. Seterusnya, tetamu kehormat dijemput untuk menyampaikan hadiah kepada pemenang-pemenang pertandingan akhir “Coding with Smart Devices for Government Schools”.


Pemenang-pemenang bagi pertandingan tersebut adalah seperti berikut:

Kategori Ring:bit (Sekolah Rendah)

Juara: Team Kembayau (Sekolah Rendah Rimba III)

Tempat Ke-dua: Team NetZen (Sekolah Rendah Katok A)

Tempat Ke-tiga: Microkids (Sekolah Rendah Mabohai)


Kategori Maqueen (Sekolah Menegah)

Juara: Team Delite (Sekolah Menengah Menglait, Gadong)

Tempat Ke-dua: Team Robotech (Sekolah Menengah Menglait, Gadong)

Tempat Ke-tiga: Team Ranch (Sekolah Menengah Tạnjong Maya, Tutong)


Sejurus selepas penyampaian hadiah, tetamu kehormat kemudiannya meneruskan lawatan ke demonstrasi penggunaan alat-alat peranti pintar yang dihasilkan oleh para pemenang.


Projek Rintis Coding with Smart Devices ini merupakan salah satu usahasama Kementerian Pendidikan dan AITI untuk meningkatkan kemahiran pengekodan dan pemikiran komputasional di kalangan pelajar melalui pembelajaran menggunakan alat peranti pintar, iaitu Bee-Bot dan Micro:bit. Projek tersebut telah bermula pada bulan Julai 2023 di mana pada keseluruhannya, melibatkan seramai 35 orang guru dan 195 pelajar Tahun 4, 5, 7 dan 8 dari empat (4) sekolah rendah dan empat (4) sekolah menengah kerajaan yang terpilih.


Pada penghujung projek ini, satu pertandingan telah diadakan untuk menilai tahap kefahaman para pelajar di dalam pembelajaran menggunakan alat peranti pintar berkenaan. Pertandingan akhir yang diadakan pada awal pagi tadi telah disertai oleh dua belas (12) buah kumpulan dari sekolah rendah dan dua belas (12) buah kumpulan dari sekolah menengah yang terlibat.


Dengan adanya program-program kemahiran ini, adalah diharapkan ianya dapat mendorong dan meningkatkan pegetahuan dan kemahiran serta minat para pelajar untuk berkecimpung dalam bidang ICT khususnya dalam kemahiran pengekodan. Pihak AITI akan terus mendukung perkembangan negara di dalam sektor ICT melalui pembangunan kapasiti digital di kalangan rakyat dan perniagaan, khususnya di dalam kemahiran dan keupayaan digital baharu agar negara dapat terus berdaya saing dan menyumbang secara berkesan dalam ekonomi digital di era Revolusi Industri 4.0.
